Creston's Weekly Update for Students & Families
Week of August 9, 2020
WOW! What an awesome start to the 20-21 school year! I want to thank all of you as parents/caregivers for preparing your students and sending them to school with face coverings. Our in-person learners are doing an exceptional job wearing their masks and leaving them on throughout the day. I realize what an adjustment that has been for them!
Please help us out by reminding your student to make every effort to stay 3-6 feet away from other students during the school day. As we know, our students have been excited to see their friends and teachers, so it's tempting to stand or sit in close proximity to others.
Virtual learners have started to better understand their daily schedules and are making connections with teachers! Even though we still have some opportunities for improvement overall, we are confident this school year will be a successful one for your students!
I'd like to thank the incredible staff of CIMS for their dedication over the last week - they are striving to make this year a great one!
Thank you for working with us this week, for being patient with scheduling of classes, and for allowing us to educate your children!
FACE MASKS:
As a reminder, face coverings are required for all students, staff, and visitors to Creston.
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHEDULE:
All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 (whether virtual or in-person/hybrid model) will have school tasks to complete each weekday.
- Students will receive direct instruction from teachers on their Black or Gold schedule day.
- Students will have related-tasks to complete on their at-home day, or Application Day. These tasks will be more independent and serve as follow-up/reflection materials for content learned with teachers - completion of these tasks will be required to receive an attendance status of "present" for each application day. Every scheduled day of school will receive an attendance code.
- *Virtual 5th graders will follow the above schedule. In person 5th graders attend school daily.
ITEMS TO BRING TO SCHOOL:
Please note that for the first quarter of the school year, students will NOT have access to hallway or gym lockers - students do not typically need coats at this time of year, and they will not be changing clothes for PE class. Students should bring minimal items into the school building this year to avoid spread of germs. While we strongly recommend students minimize what they bring to school because of not having lockers available, should a student need to have a small bag to carry his/her items, they will be permitted into the classroom. A teacher may direct students where they are to place such bags during the class to ensure safety."
CHROMEBOOKS:
Students will continue using the Chromebook they received in the Spring; if your student does not have a Chromebook and needs one, their Core Connect teacher will help with this in the next week or two. Remember, any items students bring into the building will need to be carried around with them during the day. This year, students in grades 5-8 will be responsible for bringing their Chromebook to and from school EACH DAY - the device is essentially "checked out" to them to utilize at home on their Application Days (non-in-person days) and needs to come back with them to school each morning. All students will receive a carrying case for safekeeping of their Chromebook and ease of transport.
All students will receive a carrying case for their Chromebooks the week of August 10th. Cases should be used at ALL TIMES with their district-issued Chromebook.
*Students who are NEW to Warren will receive a Chromebook on August 10th or 11th.
VIRTUAL STUDENTS:
If you are still in need of your instructional materials for the start of the year (textbooks, workbooks, chromebook) please plan to visit Creston Monday, August 10th between 4:30 - 6:30 PM to pick up your materials! This is the second event we have planned for virtual learners since not all could attend last Tuesday. It's imperative that you visit CIMS Monday if your child is a virtual student.
As we continue to navigate the reopening of school, we appreciate your patience as we work to make sure our students are enrolled in the corerct courses. We look forward to serving your students this school year!
