Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back from summer break! I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating time with your families. As we step into the new 2024-2025 school year, the excitement and enthusiasm within our school community are palpable. We are thrilled to be back, ready to do what we love most—nurturing and educating our wonderful students.
Our school is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive. Our dedicated staff have spent countless hours planning, preparing, and exploring new methods to ensure that all students are set up for success. Their tireless efforts are evident in the innovative practices and strategies they bring to the classroom each day, making our school a special place within the Ontario Montclair School District.
As we embark on this new school year, I want to emphasize the importance of our partnership. Trust and support between school and home are crucial in improving the outcomes of our community and shaping the future generation. By standing united, we can create an environment that fosters growth, learning, and achievement for all our students.
Our unified goals for this year focus on developing key qualities in our students—structure, self-discipline, empathy, respect, and intrinsic motivation. These traits are essential for their journey towards becoming the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can guide them in cultivating these values, empowering them to make positive contributions to society.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our exceptional staff. Their dedication and creativity in finding new ways to support our learning community are truly commendable. They are the backbone of our school, and their commitment to our students' success is unwavering.
Let us approach this school year with optimism and determination, confident in our ability to provide the best educational experience for our students. Together, we will create a vibrant, nurturing, and dynamic learning environment.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. Here's to a fantastic 2024-2025 school year filled with growth, achievement, and countless memorable moments!
Warmest regards,
Dr. Sal Flores

Reading Counts
Corona Eagles Did It! 43 MILLION WORDS READ! đź“–
In May, students accomplished their personal goals as well as reaching the school goal of reading 40 million words, and surpassed it reading a total of 43 million words!
Students were treated to their event reward, a students vs. staff slime obstacle course competition inspired by Nickelodeon's Double Dare on Tuesday, May 14th. The staff team set the time to beat to by capturing all 10 flags in just over 2 minutes. Did students beat the clock in their round? Check out the video to see how they did.
This year, the bar has been raised yet again and the school goal is to read a total of 45 million words. Students and staff will determine what the end-of-year incentive will be if we accomplish our goal.
As a reminder this year we are transitioning to Accelerated Reader (AR) as our reading progress platform. Students will read books and take AR quizzes on the books they've read. They earn points by passing the quizzes and earn AR degrees (Associate, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate) throughout the year based on their grade level and how many points received. Students receive their highest earned degrees during our End of Year award ceremonies. There are also month and trimester rewards and recognitions for individual readers and classes. A revised point chart for Accelerated Reader will be published soon.
Eagle Eye on You
This month, we have our Eagle eye on our newest addition to the Eagle family...
Ms. Edilia Robles
Corona Literacy Coach
Hello, I am Ms. Edilia Robles, the new Reading Specialist at Corona Elementary. I was born in a small agricultural town up in Northern California but raised in the city of Hawthorne, which is located minutes away from LAX. There I grew up in a small but extensive family, where there were five in my immediate household, but over thirty in the extended family. There are 15 siblings on my mom's side and 13 on my dad's side, so I grew up playing baseball and softball with many cousins through high school. I played as a catcher for over 15 years and grew up loving the Los Angeles Dodgers. Go Dodgers!! In elementary school I learned to play all the strings instruments and my most favorite was playing the Cello. I love watching my daughter play softball, enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the shore of a beach, and colorful sunsets. I am a big foodie and love trying new foods, traveling, and exploring museums.
Being the first in my family to continue onto college, I went to El Camino College, transferred to Cal State University Dominguez Hills and received my bachelor's degree in liberal studies with a minor in Art. There, I also completed my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and started teaching the 5th grade GATE class in Lynwood Unified. After getting married and starting a family, we moved to the city of Pomona in 2006 so I can complete my master's in special education at Claremont Graduate University. As a student teacher at CGU, I was placed in a Special Day class where I taught K-3 for a summer, then I was hired as the school's 4th-6th grade SDC teacher of record for the following 10 years. In 2011, my husband passed away and I was left to raise two young children on my own but was blessed with family and friends who became our village. It really does take a village to raise children and I am thankful for ours.
In 2017 I moved into a district position and supported teachers and staff as a Program Specialist in the Special Education department for the next 7 years. As a Program Specialist, I helped develop and facilitate professional development training, parent workshops, and roll out a K-12 Reading and Math Intervention program throughout the school district. In 2018 I went back to school to the University of La Verne and got a second master's degree in Reading and Reading Specialist certificate. I have been fortunate to also teach as a college professor at Claremont Graduate University where I taught the Best First Practices to new teachers in CGU’s Teacher Ed Program.
In 2023, I moved to the Ontario-Montclair School District as a Teacher on Assignment for the Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP program) at Elderberry Elementary. This summer I was selected as the Reading Specialist teacher for OMSD’s Intensive Reading Program. I worked with a small, specialized group of mixed aged children to expand their reading skills. I have experience in both General Education and Special Education for over 19 years as a Teacher's Aide, a Teacher, an Education Specialist, Master Teacher, Mentor, Coach, College Professor, a Program Specialist, a Teacher on Assignment, and now as a Reading Specialist.
With the help and support of all parents, teachers, and staff, my goal at Corona Elementary is to help provide the best first practices and reading strategies so all students can learn to achieve their full potential in reading. Learning to read does open doors to exploring new worlds, expands your imagination, and provides life skills we all need. I am excited to start the new school year at Corona, it really does feel like home here. Everyone has been kind and welcoming. I look forward to supporting all learners and staff in ensuring all students develop their reading skills and reading proficiency.
