ELEMENTARY NEWS/UPDATES
Elementary Art Spotlight
Elementary art is in full swing! For our first (whole school) art project, each student personalized a piece of honeycomb that was added to our school beehive. Our theme is "Welcome to our hive, it's a great place to be(e)!" We talked about the important role that bees play in nature, and how their hard work can be beneficial to humans. We also learned a variety of facts about bees, and how humans and bees have similar characteristics such as: focus, hard work, attention to detail, and teamwork.
This week each grade began working on a different version of a self portrait. They have been analyzing portraits from well known artists, as well as matching and comparing paintings and photographs. Our fourth grade class is creating a Lego-style self portrait. It's so fun to see how our students are personalizing their portraits to reflect their individual style and interests!
JH/HS NEWS/UPDATES
Photos, Fist Bumps, and Family
Greetings Mustang faithful. September has arrived and as you read these words we are entering our third full week of school already. The journey has been fun so far. We have several new staff in the building and a new administrative team has been assembled to help move things along and help see our goals realized together.
It has been my honor to get to know our students, staff, and school community over the past few weeks as well. Our admin team has all been trying to expand the Mustang's good name and brand by sharing the great things we do. In order to make certain we are working together, we have been very intentional about meeting and getting to know our family members. We have visited classrooms with great regularity and have been witness to some excellent teaching. We frequent the hallways between classes, before, and after school and offer fistbumps to those that care to take one. I will admit that talking to the students is the highlight of my day.
We continue to push out information in multiple venues. The acquisition of the Rooms app to accompany Thrillshare and the Apptegy app has allowed the Mustang family to share more information and much more consistently. We are blasting out memories in photograph or video form to capture some of the great things we are doing as a school. Although we can’t possibly catch it all, we are truly telling our story the way we want it to be told. We are proud of our school and we are being very loud in telling people about it.
It is my estimation that we are off to a great start this year. I look forward to working with everyone as the school year progresses and can’t wait to see what comes next. I encourage you to reach out if you have any questions and I encourage students to get involved in the goings-on at RCHS. Connected students come from being involved in what the school has to offer. We are pushing school pride and our efforts to revive our school song are in full swing. Several classes have worked very hard to create lyrics that best represent the modern Mustang and how we want to be represented. We hope to unbridle these lyrics in the coming weeks.
Have a great September everyone. See you in the halls, in the classrooms, in the community, at school events, and out and about. We will be operating with a new attitude this year. We are calling it the Mustang Mentality. Take pride in everything you do, Mustangs. We are going to have a great year. #MustangMentality, #MustangNation, #Family, #MyRCstory.
Educationally,
Mr. Lurz, Principal

The high school is already starting the year strong with marching band. The band will perform on August 30th at the State Fair, and our competitions are October 5th in Bennington and October 19th in Ashland. In addition to these performances, you can find the band at any home volleyball or football game this fall for pep band. Parents, alumni, staff, and other community members are welcome to play along! You won't want to miss all the great things this amazing band is doing.
The middle school is also starting strong with three separate bands this year: 6th, 7th, and 8th.
