WINGS Lunch Delivery, Drive-Thru Picnic Is Friday, May 10; Lunch Orders Due May 8
WINGS Educational Foundation will put on its annual BBQ lunch delivery and Picnic Drive-Thru on Friday, May 10. New this year is the location, which will now be held at the Washington VFW, 813 Jefferson Street. Proceeds support innovative teachers with WINGS classroom grants. Click here for the story.

Washington High School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
Washington High School’s National Honor Society induction ceremony was held on Monday, April 22, at the CJB Theatre. The guest speaker was Bob Oreskovic, a School District of Washington Board of Education member and the father of two WHS students. WHS Principal Dr. Eric Turner spoke during the event, giving the opening and closing remarks. Click here for the story.
Labadie Elementary Third Grade Wax Museum
Third-grade students in Olivia Strode’s classroom at Labadie Elementary showcased a wax museum in the school’s gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon, April 16. The students have been studying historical events and periods of time, and embraced it. They shared what they learned with Labadie staff and other students in their museum. Click here for the story.
Washington NJROTC Participates in National Academic Exam
Washington High School NJROTC recently had teams participate in the NJROTC National Academic Exam. The exam is taken by all NJROTC units nationwide. A total of 1,540 units participated in the exam. The questions on the exam are taken from current events, first aid, ships and aircraft, world events and other various topics. Click here for the story.

Campbellton Elementary Receives Cardinals Care Champions for Character Honor
Campbellton Elementary recently was named a Cardinals Care Champions for Character Serving Learning school, one of three schools in the St. Louis metro area that was recognized. School District of Washington Students View Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse passed over the United States, including Missouri, on Monday afternoon, April 8. Thanks to clear and sunny weather conditions, the solar eclipse was visible in Washington with partial totality in the early afternoon. The School District of Washington provided students and staff with safe viewing glasses by the American Astronomical Society (ISO12312.2-2015 rating). Click here for the story.
Washington High School Student Victor Hoang Receives Missouri Association of Student Councils Distinguished Student Leader Award
Washington High School senior and Student Council President Victor Hoang recently was awarded the Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC) Distinguished Student Leader Award. The award recognizes students who demonstrate superior student council leadership skills and knowledge, based on MASC criteria and evaluation procedures. Click here for the story.
Elementary Students Participate in Battle of the Books
The Sixth Annual Battle of the Books took place at Washington Middle School on Thursday, April 18. Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for grades 4-6 in which teams are encouraged to read all 12 Missouri Mark Twain award nominees and then participate in the battle to see which team knows the most about the books. Dr. Nicole Wilmes Named Assistant Principal at Washington High School
Dr. Nicole Wilmes has been named the new assistant principal at Washington High School, effective July 1. She replaces Mary Kleekamp, who recently was named the School District of Washington’s new Director of Special Education. Click here for the story.
Michael Hinrichs Named Assistant Principal at Washington Middle School
Michael Hinrichs has been named the new assistant principal at Washington Middle School, effective July 1. He replaces Stacey Secor, who recently was named principal at South Point Elementary. Click here for the story.
Tim Isgrig Named Head Boys Basketball Coach at Washington High School
Tim Isgrig has been named Washington High School’s new varsity boys basketball coach. The hire was approved by the Board of Education on Wednesday, March 20. He replaces Grant Young, who resigned following the 2023-24 basketball season. Young will remain the school’s softball coach. Click here for the story.
