Attendance Matters
Now that we are all settling into the school year, we want to take a minute to remind families and students about attendance basics. We all have our jobs and responsibilities at LHS and we need our students to do their jobs by attending class every day. It makes all our days better when we see all of our students!
If you have a cold, please come to school. When you have a fever or are vomiting, we want you to stay home, but the sniffles or a headache are not a reason not to come to school.
If you are absent for an illness lasting more than two days, please send a doctor's note.
There is an approval process for absences not related to illness. Please talk to your grade-level Assistant Principal and they will give you direction.
Online Emergency Information Update Form
Effective communication is critical to the success of St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS). Online Emergency Information Update Forms are now available through the student’s Home Access Center (HAC). Once logged in, directions to access the online form can be found HERE. A video with instructions is available HERE. It is vital that all information is updated in eSchool. Reminder for Parents/Guardians - Student Drop Off
Parents who are dropping students off at school in the morning should use the parking lot lane closest to the building. Please do not park in in a space and wait to drop your student off. Unfortunately, parking is very limited for both students and staff. Utilizing extra parking spaces for this purpose can create an issue where there is nowhere for staff or student drivers to park. Additionally, please do not drive down the middle parking lot lane in order to drop a student at school. We appreciate your help!

Parents, if your student is new to LHS and you still do not have access to Schoology, please contact Ms. Smith (krsmith@smcps.org).
IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Policy Updates
As you know, SMCPS has been focusing on reinforcing the school cell phone policy, which requires that all cell phones be turned off and kept out of sight during the school day. This means no cell phones or bluetooth headphones/earbuds are permitted to be used (they cannot be visible) in classrooms or in the hallways/bathrooms between classes.
On the very first day of school, our Assistant Principals conducted grade level assemblies in the Auditorium to review this policy with students.
We want to make sure students and parents/guardians have a clear understanding of cell phone expectations.
At the start of 1st period, all cell phones are required to be turned off and stored away, out of sight. This includes bluetooth headphones/earbuds.
Cell phones & headphones will need to remain turned off and stored away, out of sight, until the start of lunch. This includes between classes, in hallways, and bathrooms.
During lunch, students will be permitted to use their cell phones in accordance with the SMCPS student handbook.
At the end of lunch and the start of 7th period, all cell phones are required to be turned off and stored away, out of sight. This includes bluetooth headphones/earbuds.
Cell phones & headphones will need to remain turned off and stored away, out of sight until the 2:45 (the dismissal bell). This includes between classes, in hallways, and bathrooms.
Watch the video message (below) from Dr. Scott Smith, Superintendent of Schools.
Breakfast costs $1.75; lunch costs $3.00.
Your student may qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Please complete the meal benefit application.
No Food Delivery
Due to safety concerns and the demands on the main office, we do not accept food deliveries of any kind. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
