News from Padres Unidos
Thank you so much to all of the families that attended and helped put on the Black Brilliance event! It was incredible to see so many families dancing, making art and celebrating Black culture that night - more than 350 people! Our community is something special, and we hope you all had a great time!
Looking forward, we want to let you know about a fundraiser coming up at Oakshire Beer Hall at 5013 NE 42nd Ave on March 18th. All are welcome to come have dinner or get a drink and hang out, and the SUN choir will have a performance on their patio! The performance will be at 5:30pm. The money we raise will go directly toward the SUN Baile Folklórico class taking place this Spring - come if you can! We appreciate you!
Inviting Families to Offer Perspective on Funding Priorities
Funding for 25-26 School Year
Rigler is a Title I school. This is a federal designation based on the number of children from families experiencing poverty enrolled at our school. As such, each year Rigler and other public schools with this designation receive some additional funds. The purpose of Title I funding is to provide all children an opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education.
During our current school year, we used Title I Funds to provide us with:
A full-time school secretary
An additional full-time Educational Assistant to support larger class sizes and small group targeted literacy instruction
Title I Funds have also allowed us to provide:
High Impact After- and Before-School Literacy Tutoring
Substitutes and Extended hours for teachers to participate in collaborative professional learning
Extended Responsibilities such as: Test Coordination, Safety Patrol & PLC Leadership
Family Events (such as Día de los Muertos, Black Brilliance, Literacy & Math Nights, Feria)
Last Monday, we received a projected amount of funding for this next year. While it represents a reduction, we are still projected to receive approximately $123,000 as a school.
Ultimately, as Principal of the school, Cinnamon Bancroft will make decisions about how these funds are spent, but family, community partner and staff perspective help inform decisions made.
We spoke about this topic at Site Council and will also offer two drop-in times this week. There will be a table set up under the covered area for families to stop by to ask questions and share perspective.
- Tuesday, March 4th from 2:15-2:40 p.m.
- Thursday, March 6th from 7:45-8:15 a.m.
You are also welcome to share your perspective via this form or send Principal Bancroft an email at cbancrof@pps.net.
