Experiential Education Opportunities for ALL students
This week’s featured experience is the Gateway Equity Institute's EXPLORE program. This free career immersion program for Greater St. Louis Area high school students of color connects students to industry leaders in the region. Students learn about potential career paths, hear personal stories from professional mentors, develop essential career-building skills to help them succeed, and build relationships that can lead to future internships. Sports management, medicine, law, bioscience, manufacturing, and more!
Applications are now open for the 2024-2025 school year!
- Baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals, Session 1 on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 & Session 2 Thursday, February 20, 2025: The St. Louis Cardinals employ many different career areas - IT / digital tech, marketing, culinary arts, human resources, security, law, accounting, entry-level positions, and more.
- Bioscience with MilliporeSigma, Session 1 on Thursday, February 27, 2025 & Session 2 on Thursday, March 6, 2025: This program might be a good fit if you are interested in entrepreneurship, engineering or enjoy solving scientific problems with innovation and collaboration.
- Engine-uity with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Missouri: Session 1 on Thursday, March 13, 2025: This program is a good fit for students interested in technology, machinery, entrepreneurship, continuous improvement, and a workplace that emphasizes "bringing your whole self to work."
**(Please note that EXPLORE Engine-uity has a program capacity of up to 10 students per academic year). - Healthcare with Centene, Session 1 TBD & Session 2 TBD: Centene offers students a glimpse at the business side of healthcare. Careers here may involve cyber-security, health insurance, and providing health services.
- Explore Law with Husch Blackwell, Session 1 TBD & Session 2 TBD: This program might be a good fit for you if you have an interest in negotiation, interviewing clients, logic, and teamwork. You will learn about paths to a career in law, listen to mentors’ experiences with education, and get a taste of working with cases & contracts.
- PAWSibilities with Nestle Purina PetCare, Session 1 Tuesday, April 1, 2025 & Session 2 Tuesday, May 6, 2025: This program is great for students interested in exploring career pathways in the pet care and veterinary fields!

WGHS Sophomore Lilah Oelke Presents at National Medical Conference
WGHS sophomore Lilah Oelke recently presented at the 12th Annual Scientific Sessions conference hosted by the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Lilah is passionate about supporting those with adolescent heart disease. Her presentation focuses on her experiences at Camp Rhythm and her involvement with the teen Pulse group she created. Through her participation in Pulse via The Chelsea Center, she has earned academic credit and gained invaluable experience during internships at Mighty Oakes and the Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation. Lilah's dedication and passion for making a difference are truly inspiring.
We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing her continue to shine.
