While bringing an offering is not required, we hope everyone will join in the spirit of giving!
Below are the chapel themes for the month of April:
- Wedding at Cana (7th)
- The Last Supper (14th)
- Christ the King/The Day Jesus Died (21st)
- The Empty Tomb (28th)

Week of the Young Child
Join us in celebrating the Week of the Young Child from April 5th – 11th! Each day highlights a special theme to recognize the importance of early learning, young children, their teachers, and families. The themes for the week are: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. We encourage families to participate in fun activities that bring these themes to life! Visit our resources page for inspiration and ideas to celebrate at home. Let’s make this week memorable for our young learners! 🎉👧📚🎨
Music Monday
When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement. Make up and record your own unique version of a song or write your own, and share it on Facebook, X, and Instagram using the #WOYC25 hashtag.
Tasty Tuesday
This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. Cooking together connects math with literacy skills, science, and more. With the rise in childhood obesity, you can encourage healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom. Create your own healthy snacks and share the recipes and photos of your creations on Facebook, X, and Instagram using the #WOYC25 hashtag.
Work Together Wednesday
When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. Children can use any building material—from a fort of branches on the playground to a block city in the classroom, or a hideaway made from couch pillows at home. Build and share pictures of children’s creations on Facebook, X, and Instagram using the #WOYC25 hashtag.
Artsy Thursday
Think, problem solve, create! Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. On Artsy Thursday celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Use any materials—from crayons to paint, clay to crafts! Create and share photos of your children’s creations on Facebook, X, and Instagram using the #WOYC25 hashtag.
Family Friday
Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners. NAEYC applauds family members’ role as young children’s first and most important teachers. Share pictures and stories about your family on Facebook, X, and Instagram using the #WOYC25 hashtag.

🌟 April Lion of the Month – Forgiveness 🌟
This month, we are celebrating our April Lion of the Month, recognizing students who exemplify the biblical trait of Forgiveness.
🦁 Lions of the Month:
Noah Newlin
Ember Wobus
Isabella Miller
Oliver Perkins
Kinsley Watkins
Join us in congratulating our Lions of the Month for their outstanding display of Forgiveness! Keep shining your light and inspiring others. ✨🦁
Ephesians 4:32 reminds us: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Forgiveness means extending grace and letting go of resentment, just as God forgives us. Our students are demonstrating forgiveness by showing kindness, understanding, and a heart open to reconciliation in their daily lives.
Child Nutrition
Chef-prepared meal plan includes breakfast if here by 7:30am, lunch, and afternoon snack. If you do not take part in the meal plan, you will need to provide your child's meal daily. We are a peanut free facility. If you do not provide food, and are not enrolled in our meal plan, we will gladly serve your child food, for a $5.00 charge to your account.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church & School Scholarship Fund Initiative
At Good Shepherd Lutheran Church & School we believe that a Christ-centered education has the power to shape the hearts and minds of our children, preparing them to walk in faith, serve their community, and thrive academically. As a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bastrop, we are committed to providing this opportunity to as many families as possible, regardless of financial circumstances.
However, we recognize that the cost of tuition can be a significant barrier for families who desire this type of education for their children. That’s why we are excited to announce the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church & School Scholarship Fund, a new initiative aimed at making Christian education accessible to all.
Our Mission
The purpose of the Good Shepherd Lutheran School Scholarship Fund is to provide tuition assistance to families who are unable to afford the full cost of attending our school. By alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with tuition and fees, we hope to open our doors wider to students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and economic statuses. We believe that fostering a diverse and inclusive student body enriches our entire school community, allowing students to learn and grow in an environment that reflects God’s love for all people.
Why It Matters
At Good Shepherd Lutheran School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a nurturing, faith-filled environment where they can grow spiritually, academically, and socially. A Christian education can make a lasting difference in a child's life, helping them build a strong foundation of faith and values that will carry them into adulthood.
The Scholarship Fund will enable families facing financial hardship to provide their children with the kind of education that not only teaches academic excellence but also shares the Good News of Jesus Christ each and every day. It will also promote greater diversity and inclusion in our student body, giving children from all walks of life the chance to grow in a loving, Christ-centered community.
How You Can Help
We invite you to partner with us in this meaningful mission. Your contributions to the Good Shepherd Lutheran School Scholarship Fund will help us extend the blessings of a Christian education to more children in our community. By making a donation, you are directly investing in the lives of young people and helping us cultivate future leaders rooted in faith and equipped with the knowledge to serve and succeed in the world.
Together, we can ensure that no child is turned away from the opportunity to attend Good Shepherd Lutheran School because of financial hardship. Whether you’re able to give a one-time gift or become a recurring donor, your generosity will have a lasting impact on our school and the children we serve.
Join Us in Our Mission
We are grateful for the support of our church family and the broader community as we strive to make Christian education at Good Shepherd Lutheran School available to all. Please prayerfully consider contributing to the Scholarship Fund and helping us share the love of Christ through education.

A 5-Step Action Plan for Clingy Toddlers at Home
Many parents want an action plan they can follow when their toddler's clinginess gets out of hand at home. Once you know your child is not hurt, ill, or genuinely distressed, it's okay not to give in to his demands to be held or carried. You can offer support and comfort in other ways. So, what can you do?
1 Stop and listen.
When your child seeks your attention, bend down to his level and make eye contact. This lets him know you are listening, and it should help calm him because he has your attention. Try not to push him away - this could make him feel insecure about coming to you in the future.
2 Find out what's wrong and offer reassurance.
Talk to your child about why he wants to be held or carried. Young children don't have the emotional skills or vocabulary to express their feelings and needs. You can help by teaching him some words and strategies to use. "Are you too tired to finish the game? Why don't you rest with your lovey for a few minutes? I'll be right where you can see me."
3 Comfort.
Whiny, clingy behavior may be one way your child seeks affection. It's hard to continue providing hugs when you are exhausted by repeated requests for attention. One way to help your child feel more secure is for you to "store" hugs and kisses on his hand or a favorite stuffed animal or lovey. You can tell him, "You can get a hug or kiss right here any time you want it. I'll add some more tomorrow to make sure you never run out."
4 Keep talking.
Often, a child wants to be held when you are doing other activities. In these times, describe to your child what you are doing and why you can't hold him right now. You might say, "Mommy is using a sharp knife to cut the carrots, so I can't hold you now. But I'm right here! And soon we'll all have dinner together." Do your best to stay calm and speak in a soothing voice. You can also ask your child questions to try to redirect his attention and involve him in what you're doing. For example, if you are cooking, you might say, "Which do you like better, carrots or peas? I like them both!"
5 Be patient.
Young children learn and develop at an incredibly fast pace, but sometimes it seems they'll never outgrow clingy behavior. If clinginess has become a habit with your child be firm but patient. Give your child lots of affection and praise for good behavior - but be firm about not picking him up as a reward for whining.
