RYMS Library News

Welcome back to another edition of our RYMS Library News! We are very close to the school year ending and we would love to share our very busy 5th six weeks' news with you! Please check out all the amazing things the library hosted, plus the future events and programs we have coming up soon! Thank you again, for all the support! The BEST is yet to COME! Go Bears! 🐻

PSJA Parental Community Engagement & Raul Yzaguirre Middle School Library collaborated and shared our Club de Empoderados con Lectura en RYMS.

Dimension 8: The library program works with stakeholders to promote library activities.

Strand 6: Leadership - School library program activities show evidence of best practices when modeled by a full-time, certified school librarian in every school supported by trained paraprofessionals.

On Read Across America Day, our Nation recognizes the value of literacy by celebrating books. Students participated and explored diverse perspectives thru books.

Strand 3: Reading – School library programs promote reading as an essential skill for learning, personal growth, and enjoyment which are essential skills for college, career, and community.

Strand 4: Digital Learning - Effective school libraries are a vital hub with equitable access to emerging technologies that provide curated and open access to a variety of print and digital resources. They support best instructional practices and curriculum standards through the integration of resources while assessing the impact on student learning.

Students enjoyed activities created by their classroom teachers after listening to the read-aloud Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. After the read aloud they were treated to some donuts. Great job BEARS!

Strand 3 Reading: Dimension 2: The library supports, supplements, and elevates literacy instruction through research-based strategies and participation in national, state, and local reading initiatives.

RYMS Staff were treated to some tasty flavored popcorn from Mrs. Noyola & Mrs. Lugo as a reminder of how EXTRAORDINARY they are! "You make us POP with APPRECIATION!"

Students from the RYMB Book Club promote awareness by collecting over 1,500 bags and recycling trash bags. Thank you H-E-B for the opportunity!

Strand 5: 3.0 The school library program extends library-based learning opportunities for families through community-centered activities.

Students Book Giveaway collaboration with Garza Peña Elementary. Students from our RYMS Book Club were able to read virtually to our feeder campus next door. Plus, we were able to provide each 1st Grade student a FREE book, thanks to our PSJA Library Services Department donations.

PSJA Pathways Toward Independence/LIFE Program and RYMS Washington Huskies collaborate by reading each other books that promote the importance of being yourself. Shout out to PTI Teacher Ms. Jackie Alferez & RYMS Librarian Ms. Lugo for making this happen! What a neat way to promote literacy to ALL!

Creating Awareness during World Down Syndrome Day by Literacy! Thank you PSJA Pathways Teacher Ms. J. Alferez by able to join us in our RYMS Library.

WOHOO!!! RYMS was among the TOP 4 digital literacy schools in the whole PSJA ISD that was awarded by @learningdotcom. These schools excelled in empowering their students to become digital literate by using the program consistently and with fidelity. WE are RYMS Proud!

Strand 4: Digital Learning

Dimension 2: The library program utilizes a variety of engaging technology tools that demonstrate learning in a measurable way.

Way to represent RYMS 8th grade student Sheyla Garcia at our first annual PSJA ISD District Event "A POETIC Passport to Paris." One student from each campus was able to represent and share their own created poem. Sheyla was able to share her "Dear RYMS" poem. Thank you Sheyla for sharing your talent! WE are RYMS Proud!

Strand 3: 3.0 Library materials reflect the diversity, student choice for leisure reading, and reading for information as well as the needs of the curriculum and the state standards.

"School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' celebration of school librarians and school libraries. Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning." - American Library Association

We had over 50 Poetry submissions, it was a very tough close race. Thank you to all the participants who turned in a poem entry. We loved seeing the many "Poets" RYMS has. Way to go BEARS!
