Happy February Sunset Lake Families!

Next week is our Student Led Conferences. Our teachers are looking forward to watching their student leaders share their own student data with you. Please arrive on time to help our student leaders have as much time as possible to share their accomplishments.

Count Day: Our school funding is based on our student enrollment. Each year we are required to confirm our student population for each semester. Wednesday, February 14th is our second count day of the year. Attendance on this day is extra important, so please help us with this process by having your child (if healthy of course!) be present at school on 2/14.

Late Start: Monday, February 12th is our next late start day. Teachers utilize this time to work in teams and to assess our work with our School Improvement. School will begin two hours later on that Monday.

Please note, all pedestrians should use the Pedestrian Painted Walk-Way to keep from people walking between cars and to keep the flow of our traffic moving.

Drop-off-- please have your child get out of the car as soon as your car has come to a stop by the curb. It is important that we keep cars moving in a constant flow.

We are happy to share that our Student Leader Teams are up and running strong. This year our newly formed Student Lighthouse Team consists of students from BK-5th grade. These students will help our school make decisions and help guide our school with a student centered vision. Other student leader teams include: Gardening Crew, Safetys, News Team, Recycling Crew and Kindness Crew.

THE IN-SCHOOL DENTIST IS COMING!

Our school has partnered with Smile Programs, the in-school dentist, to bring important dental care to our students. It’s an easy and convenient way for your child to get quality dental care, and most insurance covers 100% of preventive treatment. Permission Forms Were Sent Home Permission forms were recently sent home with each child. To participate, be sure your child brings a completed and signed form back to his or her teacher. If you haven’t received a form, please contact the school right away. Dental Disease Is Preventable We are providing this service because taking care of your child’s teeth is important to keeping them healthy and in school learning. Tooth decay is the most common chronic and infectious disease among children. In addition, kids with oral disease can suffer with pain and difficulty eating. Nearly all dental diseases are preventable through regular dental exams. The dental team will set up a mini-dental office in our building and provide dental services for all children who return completed forms. Smile Programs has been servicing schools, and creating healthy smiles, for over 14 years.

In the month of February we are working on Habit #4- Think Win-Win. This habit is a great one for all of us to keep at our forefront. Students are able to use this when a disagreement comes up at school or at home. Families can think Win-Win when making decisions about family events or when having to get household chores done. Here are some words from The Leader in Me book to help your family conversation: Think Win-Win involves saying to yourself, I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in other's Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for options that work for both sides. Ask your child about Habit #4 and see what they can teach you.

The Village of Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce is having their annual Chili Dash with a 5K Run on March 10th. There will be lots of family fun with performances from our Vicksurg High School Band, Choir and even short previews for the upcoming Tarzan play. The event will take place at the Village Pavillion near the Vicksburg Historical from 11am-3pm with the 5k race starting at 10:00a.m. The race includes all ages so be sure to sign up today.
