A message from the principal
Greetings Island Lake Families,
I hope this short note finds you well and enjoying this transition into the Fall. Leaf peeping is one of my favorite activities around this time of year, and I will be outside for much of this weekend taking in these changes to our environment. What are your family’s traditions around this time of year, and how do you mark the change of the seasons?
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank our families for their generous support of our annual fundraiser. We are well on our way to reaching our goal, which in turn benefits our classrooms and the student experience at Island Lake. Our fundraiser runs through next week, so please know any donations you have or still plan to share will be put to great use by our amazing PTA.
Our rescheduled Caregiver Conversation about The READ Act and our shift in thinking about literacy instruction will be next Wednesday (10/30/24) at 6:00 p.m. in Google Meet. Looking forward to chatting with you: meet.google.com/qev-texk-omt.
Next Friday, November 1, is a non-school day for students (staff professional learning day).
Have a lovely weekend!

PTA Fall Fundraiser - Happening Now through 10/31!
The Island Lake PTA Fall Fundraiser is going strong! We have raised over $11,000 but still have a ways to go to meet our goal of $33,333. This includes over $470 in our inaugural "Loose Change Wednesday" on October 23.
Where can I give?
- Online: You can click on this link or scan the QR below to donate through Givebacks: https://bit.ly/ILPTA2024Fundraiser
- Prefer an offline donation? Skip the online convenience fees and send a check or cash to school! Donations via cash or check (payable to “Island Lake PTA”) can be accepted at the school office. Put your child's teacher's name on the envelope to ensure it gets associated with class goals.
- Volunteer or In-Kind Donations: Sign up here to supervise the End of Fundraiser Party or donate bottles of water!
Next Wednesday is our final "Loose Change Wednesday" of the fundraiser. Please send your kid with any loose change (or jugs full of quarters) that they’d like to donate!

DISTRICT NEWS
Provide feedback on student cell phones
This year, the School Board is asking the community to provide feedback regarding student use of cell phones in schools. This feedback will be shared with an advisory committee of parents, students and staff for their review. The group will identify themes found in the responses and provide recommendations to the School Board. The feedback and recommendations will ultimately be used to help inform the creation of a cell phone policy. Learn more at www.mvpschools.org/cellphones.
Information about a community conversation event and links to surveys can be found at www.mvpschools.org/cellphone
