January Schoolwide Behavior Goal
In order to Accept “No” for an answer, students know to
1) Look at the person who is telling you No
2) Say “Okay”
3) Stay calm and don’t argue
4) Ask later if you need to know why.
At home, you can remind your child that “No means No”, and praise them when they accept no without arguing!
One School, One Book
Beginning on Monday, January 10, all students, families, and staff of South Maple Elementary will be participating in an exciting reading program called One School, One Book!
One School, One Book brings all members of the school and community together to enjoy a fun story. Last year we read The Enormous Egg by Oliver Butterworth.
Our chapter book for this program will be announced to students on January 10. On that day students will be bringing home a copy of the book so that families can read along. We will read the book from January 10 until January 28. A schedule will be provided so that you can keep up with the reading schedule at home.
We hope that this will be an enjoyable winter activity for you and your child(ren). It will provide some great reading and listening comprehension practice here at school, and hopefully a way for you to enjoy reading together as a family at home after the busy holiday season.
In addition to the book, there will also be a Google Site with lots of fun activities like games, vocabulary, quizzes, and readings of the chapters recorded by SME Principal Mrs. Hansen and SME teachers. We hope your family will join us in reading the book together and enjoying the activities on the Google Site.
More information about the book, as well as the link to the Google site, will be sent on January 10. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the One School, One Book program, click HERE. There is a Parent tab at the top of the page with some great ideas about reading at home. Another great resource for reading at home can be found HERE. To get your child(ren) excited about the book we will be reading next week, click HERE to try to guess which book it will be! Even if you don’t guess correctly, you may spark some interest in other great stories to read together!
