Message From Superintendent Mueller
Happy Holidays, CUSD!
This newsletter is coming to you a day early, as we are excited to kick off the winter break tomorrow afternoon!
It is also an opportunity to inform you that our partners at Naval Base Coronado have shared the good news that the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will be home in San Diego for the holidays; scheduled to return on Friday, December 20th (tomorrow!) at approximately 9am.
The timing of the ship's arrival will likely cause traffic delays for morning commuters into Coronado. If you or your student will be driving to school tomorrow, please factor this information into your morning drive.
The two surveys we pushed out earlier this month will close soon. Please take the time to participate in the CUSD Facilities Master Planning Survey, and if you are a military connected family, please also participate in the CUSD Military Family Committee survey.
Also, please consider helping CSF with their push to ‘Clear Teacher Wish Lists’ by making an end of year donation. See the flyer below for the teacher lists and donation information.
On behalf of the Coronado Unified School District, I wish each and every one of you a holiday season filled with family, friends, joy, and good health!
Stay safe, enjoy the two week break, and we will see everyone in 2025. Schools will open again on Monday, January 6th.

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Tami Bromley: Upon taking her students to lunch, Mrs. Bromley noticed another teacher having a hard time with a student. Mrs. Bromley didn't know the student, but saw a staff member in distress and decided to jump in and offer to help. This isn't the first time Mrs. Bromley has helped a teacher in need. She always is looking out for people and being supportive.
- Betsy Castillo is an amazing educator. She has been a wonderful support to my daughter this year. I appreciate her care for the high schoolers and the patience, time and energy she gives each student. I am truly grateful for her role at CHS!
- Kevin Goodenough goes above and beyond for his students each and everyday. He generously gives of his time every school day for office hours. He graciously gives up his morning, coming in early to help our students. We are so grateful to have such an exceptionally committed teacher and wanted him to know how appreciated he truly is!
- Erin O'Connell is the long term substitute VAPA teacher at Village. She has done an incredible job stepping in and delivering engaging and creative lessons for every pupil in Kindergarten through fifth grade. This recognizes her for her dedication to this role to maintain the high standard of arts instruction provided to our students. Thank you from the VAPA parent volunteers!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
If you do not purchase the Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student’s device, the following fees will apply should damage occur:
Damage Type and Replacement Cost Plus Tax
Chromebook - Full Replacement $400
Damaged Keyboard $80
Damaged Screen $80
Damaged Motherboard $160
Damaged LCD Bezel $40
Damaged Camera $40
Lost/Damaged Charger* $22
Lost Case* $19
*Accessories are not covered by the Mobile Device Protection Plan.
