Governor's Educator and Educational Support Professionals of the Year:
Huge congratulations to Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Anderson for being named this year's recipients of this honor. They are major assets to our school community and are much deserving of this award for all of their hard work and dedication to the profession and our students and staff.
Student Accomplishments:
Students of the Month
Math - Lysander Flores is a very conscientious student. In geometry, Lysander is attentive to class lessons, participates when called on, always prepared for class, and advocates for himself. Lysander tends to be quiet in class but is always prepared and will complete all assignments given to him without hesitation. Lysander is a model student and a pleasure to have in class.
Science - Joey Roque brings a positive energy to every class that keeps the entire class engaged. She's curious and kind, participates frequently in class, and asks questions that demonstrate her interest in the subject.
World Language - Sean Kettle always speaks in Spanish, is a great addition to the class and always adds to discussions. He has shown tremendous growth since level 3 last year.
ESL - Victoriia Lelitka is a diligent, hard working student who doesn’t back down from challenges and is always eager to improve and show great enthusiasm and curiosity for the language. She is a joy to have in class and is always willing to be the first student to participate in activities.
History - Sebastian Sakowski participates well in class and provides meaningful contributions to class discussions. He also has a great work ethic and is highly motivated.
TCC - Madison Hagler has gone above and beyond the requirements for every project. She is a creative and disciplined student. Her skills and enthusiasm have grown tremendously since the start of school, and she continues to progress.
Music - Molly McQueeney is doing some great work. Even when she struggles, she seeks help. She is also involved in all facets of the music department and is so well-rounded.
Art - Ryan Roldan is a true pleasure to have in class; astonishing in his ideas, thought process, dedication and creations. He plans and spends the extra time and effort to accomplish whatever is in his mind. He is meticulous in his attention to detail and strives for perfection. What impresses his teacher the most though, is his genuine appreciation for the process of creation.
Physical Education - Madeline Worsley is caring and shows consideration for others, completes all daily objectives, and is always on target for the day with fitness or activities. Maddie thinks of others first and foremost and wants to be a positive role model in class.

Sparta Lunch Basketball League
We are proud of our students who advocated for and created a lunch basketball league that has grown to become a highlight for the large majority of our SHS community during lunch time. This league has expanded from a few grassroots games to a full organization, with students taking the lead and driving its growth.
Counseling Department News:
On November 22, the School Counseling Department hosted our annual alumni panel. Students from diverse backgrounds, majors, and higher education institutions came to discuss their experiences with our senior students.

Our band, chorus, and orchestra concerts are taking place over the next few weeks. Our band concert was December 6, and the students and staff did an amazing job.
World Language Department Highlights
The Sparta High School German students lent their talented voices to help celebrate the holidays at the Annual German Christmas Market at the Sussex County Fairgrounds last Saturday. This is the 22nd year that the Sparta German students perform under the direction of their German teacher, (Frau) Christiane Wessels. 37 students from Sparta High School’s German classes participated in the program. They performed 8 traditional Christmas carols, all in German, together with their German teacher (Frau) Wessels, retired French teacher (Monsieur) Serge Wessels, and Supervisor of Social Studies,World Languages and ESL, Dr. Andrew Buchanan and his wife. Officers & representatives of the German Honor Society Kylie Klinck, Kylie Johnson, Leanne Kurian and Julian Laznik-Moraghan announced the group and the various songs. Ana Knezevic, Benjamin Muth , Hailey Harrison and Lauren Maxwell performed the second stanza of “Stille Nacht” together.
We are so very proud of our German students for showing off their language skills by singing in a language other than their own and for spreading some Holiday cheer.
