West Bay Weekly Update
August 22, 2024
Principal Notes
West Bay Families,
It was another great week at West Bay! The students worked hard this week during their MAP and Fast Bridge tests, we will continue these for the next few weeks so that we can learn important information about your students' learning.
We will have our first Family Circles this Wednesday, August 28th. This year, the Bengal of the Month Winners will receive a yard sign to take home (thank you PTO!) and display in their yard for the month and then return to the school!
Birthday Treats Reminder
While some classes allow snacks from home in their classroom, we do not, as a school allow birthday treats due to health and allergen concerns. Students may bring birthday prizes if they wish to handout something to their classmates.
Lunch Visitors
Beginning September 3, 2024, we welcome visitors to eat lunch at school with their children on special occasions. You may bring in a meal for you and your child or you are welcome to call in an adult cafeteria order by 9:00 am on the day of your visit. We have visitor seating available at lunch and our staff members are always willing to answer any questions you may have. We ask that visitors leave after enjoying lunch and do not go with their children out to recess.

Here are the specific items he's looking for: gallon milk jugs, bottle caps from Gatorade or Prime bottles, Paper towel tubes, plastic rectangular containers from cream cheese, dips, and spreads. These items can be brought right to the art room. Thank you for your help!

Family Circles Blurb
Dear West Bay Families,
Family Circles will be meeting for the first time this year on Wednesday, August 28th, to discuss our topic of Competition. Students will discuss what positive competition is and what having a positive mindset looks like. Afterwards, they will read some scenarios and share if they are showing positive competitiveness or not. Be sure to ask your child how they plan to be positive in competitive situations!
Google Classroom Guardian Email Summaries
Starting September 6th, guardians will be able to receive email summaries about their student’s activity in Google Classroom. Guardians will receive an email invitation on September 6th and will need to accept the invitation in order to receive Google Classroom email summaries. When you receive the invite email and click the accept button, you will be taken to a page verifying your email address. Please make sure this is the email address you would like to use before clicking accept. If it is not the correct email address, do NOT click decline or accept, and see bullet number 3 under "Get email summaries" in this document Guardian Email Summaries - for Guardians.
You may not receive an invite email if you are still signed up from last year or if teacher(s) have not enabled email notifications in their Google Classrooms.
In email summaries, you can review:
- Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent
- Upcoming work—Work that is due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that is due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails)
- Class activities—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers
- Email summaries do not include grades.
If there’s no activity to report, or if a teacher turns off email notifications, you might not get an email summary.
Please see this document for more information Guardian Email Summaries - for Guardians.

1. Push the button and wait for an identification request.
2. Give your name and purpose for entering the school.
3. When you hear the door unlatch, enter and proceed to the office.
4. Sign in on the visitor sheet and take a visitor badge.
There are many ways to get involved as a parent at West Bay. Please check the West Bay PTO page for volunteer sign-up opportunities.

EPS Mass Messaging System
EPS and individual buildings use a parent messaging system called SchoolMessenger to send emails, phone calls, and text messages to parents sharing district information, monthly updates about building happenings, and weather-related school closings. To ensure receipt of these updates, please verify that all contact information listed in your parent PowerSchool account, including phone numbers and email addresses, is up to date and correct.
Additionally, this system allows recipients to “unsubscribe” from its mailing list; however, by “unsubscribing” you are completely removing your email address and phone number from both District and building lists. If you choose to unsubscribe, you will not receive any communication from your child’s assigned school or the EPS District. If you accidentally unsubscribe or decide you would like to begin receiving emails again after unsubscribing, contact your building secretary to change your communication status
EPS Text Messages
EPS utilizes text messages to efficiently share important information with parents, including weather-related school closings and bus route delays. To receive EPS text messages, please text “Yes” to 67587 to opt in.
