Burke Bulletin #15
Better Late than Never!
Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush. -D.Larson
At some point, March decided to run away and now I find myself facing down April! We have had a busy 3 weeks since my last Bulletin, and I can only blame that busyness for my tardiness. Here are some of the exciting things that happened:
- Student Conferences: It was amazing seeing so many families in the building, meeting with teachers and dropping off siblings in the library for babysitting. Thank you to all those who participated!
- Odyssey of the Mind: Mrs. Park and Mrs. Reed took our Odyssey team to Burlington to compete this past weekend and they tied for 1st place! They double qualified for the Worlds Competition in Michigan, making this their second time doing so. We're all so proud of the team and all their hard work, planning and ingenuity. Congrats!
- 7/8 Rockets: 7th and 8th graders have been designing rockets and launched their prototypes last week. Many students untilized our 3D printers to design elements of their rockets. They really flew!
- 2nd Grade Poetry: our second graders have been writing some inspiring poems about frogs. They will be researching other animals in the coming days and writing about them (some dioramas as well!)
- 4th Grade chicks: the 4th grade will be hatching chicks as they learn about life cycles. Keep your ears open for little peeps in the coming weeks.
The coming weeks are also going to bring in a couple of big changes for us at BTS:
- Ms. Morris will be headed out *at any second* for maternity leave. Good luck, Ms. Morris! Ms. Golden will step in to lead 1st grade through April, and we will hopefully have an announcement soon for who will join them after April vacation! Ms. Golden has been 1st grade's homeroom buddy and is familiar with the class. We know she and those first graders will have a blast!
- Sadly, Mr. Ingram will be leaving us at the end of this week. We are so sad to see him go, but know he will thrive in his new role as Athletic Director (after some time at home with the new baby!). Remember, Mr,. Ingram: once a Panther, always a Panther!
And now for some upcoming dates:
- VTCAP Testing continues this week for 5, 6. and 8.
- April 4th: early release for teacher professional learning
- April 11th: PTO Bingo! Help raise money for end of the year activities and more.
- April 18th: early release for teacher professional learning
- April 21-25: April Vacation
- May 1st: Learn with Burke Night. Come to school to join our teachers in some fun activities like flood zones, cookie prep, poetry, painting and more.
- May 8: School Concert! Ms. Ham is hard at work getting our kiddos ready for a concert. More details will follow.
