NES 10/14/24 Family Newsletter
10/14/24
Dear NES Families,
We had so much fun at our first PBIS event of the school year! We didn't let Hurricane Milton ruin it and our students enjoyed a dance party, balloons, sno cones, and kickball! Our first event was open to ALL students. The students know they will be "earning" entry to the second nine weeks event by earning their STRIPES and making good choices. The specific participation criteria is listed below and will remain on the newsletter throughout the quarter for your reference.
We have had some students wearing pajamas, onesies, robes, and such to school. Please remember we do have a dress code, but we LOVE dress up days and students are welcome to wear these outfits when appropriate for dress up days. Otherwise, these items along with toys, stuffed animals, etc. should be left at home.
A reminder, we are working to implement AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at NES. For more information about AVID, please visit this link. As part of our AVID initiatives, staff and students wear their favorite college (or alma mater) shirts on Wednesdays! Students are encouraged to join in and wear college shirts on Wednesdays.
Every Friday is "NES Spirit Day"! We encourage students to wear school colors (blue/yellow) or their school shirts every Friday. If you preordered a school shirt with the new logo design, they have started printing and we are hoping to have these ready by next week. We will reach out once they are at NES for you to come in to pick up and pay.
We are still working to finalize all of the fun activities for our Spooktacular, but we need YOUR help! If you are able to donate candy for the event, please send it in with your child or feel free to drop off at the front office.
We noticed some of our students had taken AR tests while at home during the Hurricane and on the Teacher Work Day. Those assessments will not count towards their overall points. Students may only take AR assessments while on NES campus for points.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade academic awards will be on October 25th. If your student is receiving an award, an invite will be sent home with them listing the time of their specified ceremony.
Students brought home Scholastic Book Fair flyers this week. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Milton, the vendor must reschedule our Book Fair. The new Book Fair dates will be December 9th - 13th. We will share additional information closer to time.
We look forward to the start of our second nine weeks and all of the amazing things our students will accomplish!
GOOOOO TIGERS!!!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Jessica Lowe, Principal
Mrs. Heather Briney, Assistant Principal
