- READING MONTH -
We are excited to celebrate reading month at David Barton. Our goal is to get students excited about all of the different books available, and help them find a deeper love for reading! David Barton has created a plan for the month that will hopefully get our students reading for enjoyment every day! Below is a calendar of dress-up days and themes that your child can choose to participate in if they would like.
We will be hosting a whole school book swap. Students can bring in books they want to swap March 1-4. Students will be able to exchange the number of books they brought in for a "new to them" book March 7-11. There is a limit of four books per student and please make sure they are in good condition.
David Barton has partnered with our local library. Local librarians are going to come to school and visit each class during March for “We Read Wednesdays,” or “First Chapter Fridays.” Classes also have the opportunity to walk to the library during Reading Month. If you would like to get your child a library card, feel free to stop by the local library and take care of that. You will need a photo ID with an address and a piece of mail for address verification.
We are welcoming guest readers into classes. If you would like to read to your child’s class, (in person or by zoom), please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a time that works. Bring your favorite book!
David Barton teachers are encouraging families to read at home as well. Be creative, have fun, and look for ways to promote reading at home. Some ideas include: read a recipe and cook or bake together, read road signs, call a relative and read them a book, or visit the local library.
Together as school and home, let’s encourage students to step away from technology for a little bit and grab a good book that ignites their imagination and love for reading!
Happy Reading!
