It was a short student week with Winter Conferences, but a lot was happening in Eagle Nation this week.
- Our Drama department is doing an outstanding job. Last Friday, the CHS Drama Department presented One Act Plays, with a performance of "The Yellow Wallpaper" and a second performance of the very funny "I Quite! - A Guide to Leaving Your Job in Style". There was a great turnout to support our students, with 100+ people in the audience. Then, this Tuesday, the CHS Drama Department had their Regional Showcase Night filled with even more outstanding acting as they were getting ready to compete at the Regional Acting Competition at Sam Barlow High School today. Great Job, CHS Drama, and supporting CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #3:Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership.
- Also, thank you to everyone who came and supported our CHS Booster meeting on Tuesday, as CHS Booster Club supports our CHS student Athletes, which is an excellent way for parents and families to get involved in CHS. If you want to get involved, please come to the next CHS Booster Club meeting supporting CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #3:Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership.
- Thanks to all of you, we had an excellent turnout for the Winter Conference. It was a great time for teachers, students, and families to connect and discuss each student's growth. We appreciate all the students and families who took the time to meet for conferences and look forward to partnering with all our students and families for continued success for the rest of the school year supporting CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 -GOAL #4: Ensuring Equitable Access to High-Quality Academics and CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Centennial Profile of Graduate.
- Shout out to our Counseling Department, who spent many days this week engaging in a Counseling Department review and developing an action plan to continue improving student social-emotional learning and support the ASCA School Counselor Professional Standards & Competencies. This aligns with meeting our CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #2: Supporting Every Student’s Wellbeing & Inclusion. Make sure to thank our counselors next week for National School Counselor Week!
- Thank you to everyone who attended Thursday's CSD Profile of a Graduate Community Forum. We had many students, staff, families, and community members take part from across our district who collaborated to continue the development of our CSD Profile of a Graduate vision. The Profile of a Graduate was developed as part of the Strategic Planning process for Roadmap ‘27 and is a guiding vision for our PreK-12 educational system that identifies the essential knowledge, skills, disposition, and interpersonal competencies a Centennial School District student will develop for their educational journey for readiness and success in their future endeavors. Thank you to all our CHS Students, Staff, and Parents/Families who gave their voice to this process and supported CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Centennial Profile of a Profile of a Graduate.
- Our Winter Sports Teams are rocking, with many of our teams having big wins this week. Congratulations to Boys and Girls Basketball, who had strong wins as we played away against Putnam on Tuesday and at home against Hillsboro on Friday. Our CHS Swim Team did an outstanding job against Parkrose on Thursday and honored their Senior during CHS Swim's Senior Night (Check out the Pictures). CHS Cheer took first place on game day and third place traditionally at the Scotsmen Rumble Tournament last Saturday. Our Westling team did an outstanding job hosting the Centennial Dual Tournament last weekend and turned around and hosted Canby on Wednesday is competing at the Geister Invitational today. Thank you to all the students, staff, families, and community members who support our Eagle at all these games and supporting CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #3:Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership.
Your feedback and input is very important to continue to improve our school. So, if you have not already done so please take the CHS Centennial Family/Caregiver Survey. This survey is voluntary and anonymous; no personally identifiable information will be collected. The survey should take approximately 5 to 7 minutes to complete. Progress reports will be mailed home next week, so check your mailbox and track your grades on Student/Parent VUE. There are only six weeks until classes end for Trimester 1. So, to improve your grade, check with your teacher and make up any missing work today to show what you know and excel!
There are many more things that are too numerous to capture. Thanks to all of you for making it a great week! Go Eagle!

Start your day with Breakfast! Breakfast is available in the Cafeteria until 10 a.m. and on Wednesdays until 10:30 a.m.

Each year, the first week of February is National School Counseling Week. This year it is the week of February 3, 2025. We recognize the vital roles school counselors play in the lives of students. High school counselors help students in academic and post-graduate/ career plans and social-emotional domains. School counselors address social and personal issues that range from teenage dating drama and social media squabbles to helping children deal with a transition to a new school, cope with anxiety, or provide support as a child deals with grief after the loss of a friend or family member, being bullied by a schoolmate, lack of confidence, family issues affecting school life (for example parents’ divorce), concerns of a friend being abused, etc.

Inclement Weather - Be Ready! Reminder
With the colder winter months just around the corner, we want to remind families and staff of the procedures used by our District when inclement weather occurs.
The Centennial School District maintains a preparedness plan for the monitoring of inclement weather and potential weather-related impacts on school operations, including our facilities and road safety for transportation. As these impacts are evaluated, there may be changes to the school schedule, such as a school closure, a delayed start to the school day, or an early dismissal. Snow routes for our school buses will also be used when road conditions are deemed unsafe by our Transportation Department staff.
When inclement weather causes changes such as these, we will notify our staff and families using multiple methods:
- ParentSquare messaging (text, email, app notifications, and/or voicemail). If you need assistance registering for the ParentSquare app, please contact your school office.
- Centennial School District website: www.csd28j.org
- Social Media (Facebook: CentennialSD28j / Instagram: centennial_schools)
- Flash Alert notifies local news stations. Individuals can subscribe to receive FlashAlert updates for Centennial School District here: http://www.flashalert.net/id/centennialsd
Parents/caregivers, if your email address or phone number has changed in the last year, please contact your school office to ensure we have your up-to-date contact information.
