Mill Creek Upper Elementary
August Parent Newsletter
The mission of Mill Creek Upper Elementary School, is to ensure individual success and personal development for every student, by cultivating opportunities that equip, empower, and educate all to excel.
From the Principals
We are excited to kick off the 24/25 school year with you and your child!!!! We want it to be your best year ever! I will share with you our building goals in the September newsletter, but wanted you to know that we are serious about student learning and each student learning to their fullest potential. School will be fun, but our job is to educate your child, first and foremost. This is my 21st year as an elementary principal. I love the energy and enthusiasm at Mill Creek and will work tirelessly to ensure your child has an awesome year.
Shelley Tiedeman is the new Assistant Principal at Mill Creek. She has been in Belton for the last 5 years as a high school math teacher and is looking forward to being an Assistant Principal again. The Tiedeman lives in Belton and have 2 kids in the school district. They enjoy being a part of the Pirate community. She looks forward to seeing your child grow and learn throughout this year!
From the office of Mill Creek
Here is a link to the K-6 Elementary Handbook. Please read through it to help you better understand how we operate and get many questions answered. A couple things I wanted to share with you:
Birthday treats can not be brought to school due to the various food allergies our students have.
Water bottles must be able to be closed, no cups/water bottles with straws. There have been too many spills involving iPads and school resources.
We discourage students from bringing purses/sling bags to school. If they are brought the students will be asked to keep them in the room during the day.
Here is our District’s Elementary Cell Phone policy. Summarizing, phones/watches are off and in backpacks all day.
Parents are welcome to volunteer in classrooms and/or come to eat with their child. Procedures for both are outlined in the handbook.
Any change to a student’s transportation MUST be done in writing. Please email the office NO LATER THAN 2:45 to ensure we can communicate with the student and teacher. The office email is mcoffice@bsd124.org.
If you know your student will be absent, please call or email the office by 9:00 am. If your student is absent from school due to an appointment, please turn a note into the office so we may excuse the absence
