Specialist News
From Mrs. Lillig
With less than six weeks left in the school year, and just about that many times to see my students in class again, I am shocked at how fast the year has passed! There just aren’t enough days to do all the things!
So, into the Studio…
Unit C has just finished their amazing dive into creating multi-pane Seascapes, which you will be able to see on IGE night. We are exploring “Zooming In on Nature” taking close-up photos of plants, trees, bugs, etc. on our iPads. This next week, we will be creating Earth Day posters using their photography. FYI, I did tell them they could keep on taking pictures this weekend, if they wanted. So don’t be surprised if your kid has their iPad outside in the flowers. Just make sure it comes back inside with them!
Unit B has also finished a big project, low-relief Magical Kingdom sculptures. It was a HUGE multi-step process, and an assignment that was originally geared towards high school students; but I knew they could do it. Their artwork is beautiful, and I’m so proud of the work they put into it. I can’t wait for you to see them at IGE Night!
Unit A recently finished a fun activity where we learned about Pop Art and Andy Warhol. After looking at some of Warhol’s portraits and his coloring technique, students were able to colorize a grayscale photo of themselves! They definitely used their vibrant imaginations, so don’t be surprised if you see green faces and purple hair in their artwork. I think what they liked best was being allowed to use Sharpies!
I consider myself so lucky to have known most of your kids since kindergarten. And even luckier that they’ve been so great in showing me grace as I’ve found my way through my first year of being their actual “teacher”. It’s been an amazing experience, and I am excited to spend the summer planning all new art explorations for them.
