From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
It’s Confirmation Reunion weekend! This weekend, we’ll be honoring the special anniversaries of 34 of Zion’s confirmands, including four guests who were confirmed in 1950. We’re grateful to God for the incredible legacy of faith that has been passed down from generation to generation in our beloved congregation.
Mark your calendars for next weekend, when we’ll welcome 26 new families into our family of faith. You’ll get to meet our new members, enjoy some great fellowship, and snag some delicious breakfast tacos. Join us for our new member welcome, immediately following the 8 am service next Sunday in the lobby.
In worship this weekend, we wrap up our series “Better Together” where we have been looking at some of the key ingredients that we need to make our relationships better. This weekend’s key ingredient is hospitality, based on Isaiah 58:6-9:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I.”
God, through the prophet Isaiah, criticizes the people of Israel for being inhospitable – to the needy and to each other. One of the best ways to grow community is through hospitality. A little bit of kindness can go a long way! Learn more about the value and the impact of hospitality this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

Loads of Caring
LOADS OF CARING (formerly Laundry Love) is now a part of The Caring Place. Loads of Caring will be a wonderful addition to the many services they provide to our Georgetown community. With the support of Zion’s mission board we will continue to be a part of this outreach, hosting several events annually.
Zion hosted a Loads of Caring event September 10th. There were 15 servant volunteers from our congregation who helped 53 family units have clean laundry. Zion is hosting the November 12th event. If interested in volunteering, please contact me.

Wurstbraten 2024
Wurstbraten is fast approaching, and your help is needed! This event provides opportunities to meet new friends and catch-up with many Zion members. Making sausage is always more fun when lots of people are involved. On Saturday, November 2, we need volunteers, starting at 7:00 a.m. There are also MANY opportunities November 1-5 to help. Sign-up sheets will be in the Narthex and Lobby starting NEXT Sunday. Please take the time to sign up, even if you can only commit to a few hours and BRING A FRIEND!
