Inclement Weather Letter
November 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians & Staff:
As we enter the winter months, Arlington Heights School District 25 (AHSD25) would like to update you on some of the factors that contribute to closing school in the event of inclement weather and when you can expect to be notified.
Over the course of the past several years, we have been engaged in collaborative discussions with District 214 as well as our neighboring districts. Together, we are committed to a process that ensures decisions are made wisely and in a timely fashion regarding the safety and well being of our entire school community.
In the event that school needs to “close” due to inclement weather, District 25 would notify you whether we will:
Make up the day on a later date, OR
Utilize an eLearning Day where students would use their District device to learn from home. For details on eLearning Days, read the section in this letter titled eLEARNING DAY.
Please scroll this letter for details on the following topics related to inclement weather:
- School Closing Guidelines
- Communications
- eLearning Day
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian Kaye
Superintendent
School Closing Guidelines
Parent Choice:
- If schools are open, parents, as always, may excuse their child if they feel conditions are unsafe.
Please Note:
- Please note that there may still be a need to use emergency days without eLearning if an emergency happens with little warning and there is not enough time to activate the eLearning plan. We would communicate that to staff, students, and families.
Communications
Notification Timing:
Closure announcements are made by 5:30 a.m. on the day of closure, or by 9:30 p.m. the night before when possible. They will be sent to parent/guardian emails via our SchoolMessenger email platform as well as via text for those who have signed up for our emergency text notification system.

Emergency Notification TEST this Friday
District 25 will send out a TEST message of an inclement weather day on Friday, November 15 at around 6pm. This message will be a phone call, text message, and email. If you do not receive this test within 30 minutes of 6pm, please email our Head of Communications & Storytelling, Adam Harris (aharris@sd25.org).
eLearning Day
In the event of a school closure, the District may choose between implementing an eLearning day or making up the day according to the school calendar. In the instance where an eLearning Day is being implemented, your child(ren) would not come to school but rather they would learn from home connecting with their teachers virtually. Please read through this letter (linked here) for details on eLearning Days.
As always, the safety and security of our students and staff remains a top priority of AHSD25.
