Principal's Message
February is my favorite month! It is the month of love, heart-health, and Black History! We will jumpstart the month with a fun-filled spirit assembly in which students will learn the importance of spreading love & kindness (filling buckets), ways they can be “sweet” to their hearts, and the importance of accepting and appreciating others for their differences. We will also celebrate the 100th day of school on February 12th with many exciting reading and math activities. The 100th day of school marks a special opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate all the learning and fun we’ve had thus far. Students will fall more in love with Mary D. this month!

Celebrate, MLK! Come On!
As a school, we proudly celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students learned about his incredible contributions during our January spirit assembly, and the learning continued in individual classrooms. Some classes participated in an "egg-cellent" activity using brown and white eggs to explore the message of equality, while others read books and brainstormed words representing Dr. King’s legacy. It was a meaningful experience that deepened our students’ understanding of his impact.
100th Day - February 12th
We are excited to celebrate the 100th Day of School on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. To show our school spirit and commemorate the special day, our school will dress like we are 100 years old. If your child would like to participate, it’s easy! Please do NOT purchase a costume; instead, find items at home. Here are a few ideas that may help your child dress the part. Thanks for helping us celebrate the 100th day!
Valentine's Day Celebrations
Love is in the air! On Friday, February 14th, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day with fun activities and an optional card exchange. If your child chooses to participate, please ensure they have a Valentine for every student in the class. Teachers will be sending home class lists to help with this.
A great way to make this experience meaningful is by having your child sign their own cards—it’s a wonderful opportunity to practice writing their name!
As a reminder, Valentines should not include candy. Thank you for your support in making this a fun and inclusive celebration for all. We appreciate you!

Reading:
Wondering how to help your child at home with Letter Naming Fluency?
Please use the letter sheet in the back of your child's folder to practice letter naming fluency. This will help your child become more comfortable and quicker at recognizing and naming the letters, which is an important step in developing strong reading and writing skills. Try to practice a little each day to help improve their fluency!

Math:
While we use many assessments to monitor your child’s math progress, there are ways you can help at home!
🔢 Practice Basic Math – Encourage number recognition, counting, and simple addition or subtraction through everyday activities like cooking (counting ingredients), grocery shopping (identifying numbers), or playing board games with dice.
🖥 Support i-Ready Time – Create a quiet space for your child to focus, encourage them to take their time, and remind them to do their best on their MyPath.
Your support makes a difference! Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s learning.

Operation: Warm Coats
We are excited to announce that Kennett Consolidated School District, in partnership with Operation Warm, has acquired a supply of brand-new winter coats. Keeping our students warm during the winter months is essential for their health and well-being. As students grow each year, finding a properly fitting winter coat can be a challenge, and our goal is to ensure that every student has access to one.
If you are interested in your student receiving a winter coat, please complete the linked form [Coat Request Form].
Please note: We will fulfill requests on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot guarantee that the specific coat size your student needs will be available at the time we receive your request. If we are unable to provide your student with a coat in the requested size, we will offer the closest available size until we run out of coats. If we cannot provide a coat for your student, we will contact you directly.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep our students warm this winter!
