PTA News
Our recent book fair was a success! We collected over $200 in "Share the Fair" donations and earned $8,000 in Scholastic dollars. We were able to provide book fair vouchers to all licensed staff to purchase items for their classrooms as well as providing many new books for the media center.
If your child had a remaining balance on their eWallet, that money has been converted to an eGift card balance on your Scholastic account. This money can be used at the Scholastic store online or it can be used to fund an eWallet at our BOGO (Buy One Get One FREE!) fair in early May.
Thank you to our wonderful group of volunteers that stapled fliers, set up, worked the fair, and tore it down.
PTA Meal Night - Tuesday, March 19
South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) will use an opt-in transportation system for the 2024-25 school year to help ensure the most efficient routing for students eligible to ride a school bus.
The form can be found in your Parent Campus Portal account within the message center.
Instructions how to complete the survey within Parent Campus Portal and more details can be found on the transportation webpage.
Families must complete the opt-in form by Friday, March 29, 2024.
- Please complete a form for each child.
- Families that do not complete the form for each child will be opted out of transportation services for the 2024-25 school year.
- Non-busing zone distances of 1 mile for elementary school students and 1.5 miles for middle school students are subject to change.
- If changes to School Board policy are made before the 2024-25 school year, impacted families will receive additional communication about transportation before the school year begins.
If your situation changes, families can opt back in for transportation at any time, as long as the student qualifies for busing services.

MCA Information for 3rd-5th Graders
South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) administers statewide accountability assessments each year, called the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) in grades 3-8, 10, and 11. Students who receive special education services and meet eligibility criteria may take the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) test as an alternative. The test results are a source of information for us to evaluate our services, supports, programs, and classroom instruction. Participation in MCA/MTAS testing is important so that we have accurate data to assess how students are learning academic standards and determine which academic areas we need to improve instruction in.
The MCA/MTAS testing dates for Valley Crossing will be from April 15-19 for reading, April 22-26 for math and May 3-7 for science (5th grade only). We recognize that the testing window overlaps with a number of religious observances and holy days. SoWashCo Schools is committed to honoring and being responsive to the needs of all families and students. Please contact Jenna Held, 651-425-7605, jheld0@sowashco.org , if you have concerns or questions about school testing dates and times, needed accommodations, and/or your student’s participation in MCA/MTAS testing. For more information about the purpose and uses of the MCA/MTAS, please visit the Assessment and Grading website.
