QRIS Kick-Off for 2019-20
Monterey County's first Quality Rating Improvement System kick-off was held on September 26, 2019 at Monterey County Office of Education. The Consortium meeting was hosted by Eliza Gomez & Megan Matteoni, QRIS Coordinators. QRIS is a locally determined system for continuous quality improvement based on a tiered rating structure with progressively higher quality standards for each tier. In addition, this system provides supports and incentives for programs, teachers and administrators to reach higher levels of quality. The vision is to ensure all children have access to quality early learning experiences that support their optimal development. All three State preschools are participating in the QRIS process. Metz Road State Preschool has completed the three year cycle and attained a final rating of 5 on a scale of 1 to 5. San Vicente State Preschool and Gabilan State Preschool both initially received a rating of 4 and are in the cycle for reevaluation in 2019-20 & 2020-21.
Behavior Strategies Training for Metz Road State Preschool Staff
On September 26, Marie DeBello, Preschool Special Day Class Teacher, met with our Metz Road State Preschool teachers to review some examples of implementing a behavior chart system for students that may need additional assistance in the classroom. Some children need to be given an incentive (such as a happy face sticker) to reinforce positive behavior. A sad face sticker would represent an inappropriate behavior. Staff will focus on diminishing one inappropriate behavior at a time.
Teachers working on Student Progress Records
On September 30, teachers worked on reviewing notes and pictures of students involved in developmental activities to rate and lock these records. Results will be reported to parents during teacher/parent conferences.
