Olympic Middle School
Week of June 10-June 14
Good afternoon Olympic families and staff
Wow...not sure how we have found ourselves in the last full week of the school year, but here we are. It has been a true pleasure to be the principal at Olympic this year. For our 6th grade students, we wish you the best at Oakland Bay next year. I know that Ms. G will be super happy to see you all. For our 5th grade students, you get to come back next year as 6th graders and lead the way for our new incoming students.
We have accomplished a lot this year and I am very proud of the work our students and teachers did this year. Together, strong classroom communities were built with relationships and learning at the center of our work. We are seeing gains across grades in literacy, math and science with a significant decrease in daily behaviors. Thank you to our families for all of your support!
Here are some things happening this week:
- Tuesday, we have our "Miked-Up" assembly where students will be treated to some great magic tricks by our own Mike Budd. Also at this assembly, we have a few lucky students who get to throw a pie in Mike Kraft's face. Our students have been voting on who to throw a pie at for two months, with Mr. Kraft being the winner (lucky me)! Students who participated in the voting were entered into a random drawing to be a pie thrower! Also at this assembly, next year's ASB officers will be announced. During lunches on Tuesday, students are invited to the library to participate in a book swap. Students are invited to bring gently used books from home to swap out for some new summer reading.
- Wednesday is our 6th grade celebration beginning at 8:30 am in your student's homeroom class. Students will be celebrated with a special award. After the classroom time, families will gather in the commons for cookies and juice and there will be two photo spaces set up. Our celebration will end at 9:30. After the 6th grade celebration, team Fir will be taking their students on a walking field trip to Callahan Park for games and activities and they will return for the 12:05 lunch.
- 6th grade students will also have their PEI field stem trip to the Hillburn preserve either Thursday or Friday. Teachers should have communicated with you on when your students class is attending.
- Friday, students will be bringing home their report cards and items from their lockers. While there is still school Monday from 8:00-9:30, we often see lower attendance and want to make sure these items make it home!
Thank you all again for making this school year successful. You have raised some amazing young people, and we thank you for sharing them with us!
Enjoy the summer!
