The Humanity of Disability
Description: Physical therapist and mother, daughter and patient, advocate and liaison. Most people would imagine this dynamic was comprised of three or four separate individuals; but what if there were only two? What if you found yourself both as a PT and a mother of a disabled child? For over 30 years, mother and daughter team, Dawn and Christine, have been navigating this reality together and learning the delicate dance needed to maintain their identities while traversing an unknown future. Through their session, Dawn and Christine hope that by conveying their own unique experiences with disability, that they can help professionals effectively understand and connect to the humanity of your students or patients and their families.
Tuesday, April 25th 8:15am-9:45am
General Session with Inclusive 365 Authors
Mike Marotta, Karen Janowski, Beth Poss, Chris Bugaj
Description: We’re going on an adventure! Learners across the land are in need of an education designed and delivered in a way that respects and honors their individual abilities. However, the path through contemporary education is wrought with traps, barriers, and pitfalls. Fortunately, learners have you to help guide them as they work to unravel the mystery of their own bodies and minds and help them discover a treasure trove of maximum potential. And you are not alone. Gather your fellowship and work together to learn strategies for how to develop an environment where every educator adopts a mindset based on the principles of inclusive design. Decipher, decode, and decrypt insights on how the language we use influences actions. Learn how to replace, rather than add, actions to create sustainable and systemic practices. Inclusion is coming.
We all have a role to play in this quest for inclusivity. Join us on this journey of discovery.
