A Word From Mrs. Loor
Thank you for coming out to our first PTO meeting of the year! There were some great questions and discussions with Superintendent Hough and Director Rocco.
This week, we will be continuing our grade level holiday presentations. Mrs. Mills will touch upon many of the autumn/harvest holidays and festivals that cultures around the world celebrate. PTO Fall Enrichment begins tomorrow. Please make sure your children know which enrichment they are signed up for and what days they are going.
Also, an important reminder: When children don't feel well during school hours, they need to report to the nurse. Please remind your children that communication between you and them and vice versa should happen through the adults in the building.
Schools are closed on Thursday for Rosh Hashanah. For those of you who celebrate, may you have a sweet new year. L'shana tovah!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
Counselor's Corner
Last week all students completed Lesson #1 of our THRIVE Curriculum. The topics discussed were including Others/Respecting Differences. Click HERE for more information about our THRIVE Program.
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Ms. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.
On the Same Page: Library News from Mrs. Mills
It’s been great getting this year started! Mrs. Bagley and I have LOVED meeting our new first graders and getting to see our familiar friends in the upper grades. Students have shared many of their own “stories” in addition to hearing the ones we tell. Telling our own stories will be a focus of this school year, too.
Through an SEF grant, we were able to acquire a book binding machine that will not only help us save “well-loved” library books, but also bind student stories. We will be rolling out that program later in the year, but are excited for students to share and borrow each other's books.
We would like to introduce a new library program that will help us continue to grow our collection with up-to-date favorites. “Celebration Books!” is an opportunity for families to dedicate books to the library in recognition of a special event (graduation, moving up, birthday) or “just because,” in honor of their child. Please read the linked letter, or reach out to us for more information.
In 3rd through 5th grades, we have introduced a few programs that take place outside of library classes. We have updated the library website where you can find details about these activities:
- Kindness Crew (3rd -5th grades)
- Battle of the Books (4th and 5th grades)
- Franklin Film Festival/90-second Newbery Films
As always, if you have any questions, please email me at jmills@summit.k12.nj.us.
STEAM News
As we continue our first unit in STEAM, we are preparing creative prototypes of all kinds. To help us do this, we kindly request your support in providing the below items:
- Cardboard tubes (paper towels, toilet paper)
- Newspaper
- Bubble wrap
- Cut up cardboard
If you're able to contribute any of these items, please send them in with your child. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
