DIS Leadership wins Spirit of Nevada Award!
DIS Leadership Brings Home Spirit of Nevada Award – 7 Years in a Row!
Dayton Intermediate School students have succeeded yet again! For the seventh consecutive year, they’ve earned the prestigious Spirit of Nevada Award, a statewide recognition presented by the Nevada Association of Student Councils. DIS is one of only four schools in the entire region to receive this honor.
Under the exceptional guidance of DIS teacher Lindsay Etter, the student leadership team submitted a detailed application and a scrapbook documenting a year’s worth of impactful activities between July and April.
DIS demonstrated excellence in multiple categories, including:
- Community Service – Hosting drives for winter gear and food for F.I.S.H., a local nonprofit.
-
Financial Contributions – Raising over $1,000 to support a local family in need after a house fire.
-
School Beautification – Organizing courtyard clean-up and garden restoration projects.
-
School Spirit Events – Hosting monthly SPARK assemblies, spirit games, and a successful Halloween dance.
-
Staff Appreciation – Delivering monthly gifts and organizing special recognition events for teachers and support staff.
-
Cross-School Collaboration – Partnering with both Dayton High School and Dayton Elementary for community and literacy events.
Congratulations!
The Spirit of Nevada Award is not just a reflection of one year’s hard work; it’s a celebration of the culture DIS has built over time—where student voice, leadership, and service thrive. The DIS student leadership work exemplifies our Portrait of a Learner, embracing values like empathy, responsibility, and service.
