~ Notes From Mrs. Richardson ~
Greetings MPE Families!
We are excited to see you all this Saturday from 10-2 for WinterFest (formerly Holiday Extravaganza!). This will be a fun filled event with fun activities for students. Of course we will also find out the winners of the amazing baskets and teacher tree activities. We will be revealing the contents of Mrs. Richardson's mystery basket to students on the news tomorrow morning. A sneak peek for parents is below! Encourage your children to pay attention to the news tomorrow morning to find out what they could win! I would like to thank the PTA volunteers that have worked tirelessly to create this fun event for our students. I would also like to thank our teachers and staff who have come up with some pretty awesome prizes for our students. We are looking forward to a fantastic event!
Let's Talk Lice!
We've had a number of cases of head lice crop up over the past weeks. At MPE, we follow the district guidance of sending a class, grade level or bus notification when more than 1 case is reported in any given group of students. Lice cases are very common among school children. Head lice do not carry any disease, and their presence does not indicate a lack of cleanliness. They are however, quite a nuisance and can be costly to treat.
We ask that you please check your children often, using guidelines below and notify the clinic if you find your child has head lice. You can email the clinic aides directly at roccol@fultonschools.org or brunob@fultonschools.org.
To examine your child, use a bright light or sunlight. Lice are crawling insects, about the size of a sesame seed. They do not jump or fly but can move very quickly. Nits are the eggs, which are laid close to the scalp and attached firmly to the individual hairs. They are usually light colored and cannot be easily brushed or flicked out. You will often find nits, and not live lice. Children may complain of itching. Instruct your child NOT to share personal items such as combs, brushes, scarves, hats or coats with other children. Lice are spread by contact; they do not jump from one person to the next.
Special Area Spark!
Please take a few moments to read through our Special Areas Quarterly Newsletter. Our special area teachers are some of the best around, you'll see photos of students and learn about their fun projects and units of study.

December Fun Fridays
Thank YOU from Ceviche Pick Up N Go
Many thanks to all who came out to support us at our Ceviche Pick Up N Go Spirit Night! We had a great time. Please see the message below from the marketing director at the restaurant. I've also included a few photos below.
I wanted to reach out to personally thank you and the Mountain Park community for an incredible turnout at last night’s Spirit Night! Your school absolutely blew every other Spirit Night we’ve done out of the water. It was truly amazing to see such support from the parents and students.
That said, I want to sincerely apologize for any long wait times that some of the parents may have experienced during the event. At one point, we received 50 orders in just 25 minutes, and our kitchen struggled to keep up with the overwhelming demand. We truly appreciate everyone's patience, and we’re committed to improving our speed and efficiency for future events.
MPE MATH FESTIVAL
We are thrilled to host our first annual Julia Robinson Math Festival
Thursday, December 12th from 5:30-7 at MPE.
Please join us with your whole family to come explore math through puzzles, play, and other exciting hands-on activities!
Math doesn't need to be scary, hard or boring. Play gives students the opportunity to take charge of their learning, grow from their mistakes, and have fun at the same time. This event is appropriate for all elementary aged students and their math loving guests!

RHS Soccer Run for KICKS!
Creative Minds Club
In the Creative Minds Art Club, we champion the artist in everyone. Our mission is to inspire confidence in artistry and reveal the magic of creation.
Students will come into a WORKING ARTIST STUDIO where they will learn techniques for their OWN creations. Some projects will be teacher-led, but the goal is to allow students to find their inspiration and create from there — we value process and experimentation over final products, because that’s where real learning and creativity lie.
Classes are limited to 10 so that each student receives 1:1 time working on their projects.
In the Creative Minds Art Club, it’s more than just an art project, you'll leave with a sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence. Link - https://paulambrett.com/creativeminds-art-club

On-Site Counseling Services at Mountain Park
My name is Samantha Scalabrino, and I am a licensed therapist with The Summit Counseling Center. I work at Mountain Park to provide private, individual counseling to students in need. I have worked as a therapist for 20 years and have previous experience working in schools for children with behavioral difficulties and with special needs.
Students who use my services have a wide range of needs: they may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, thoughts of self-harm, and/or behavioral challenges. They may need to learn skills to help with their emotional regulation, manage their ADHD, navigate family transitions such as a divorce or death, or deal with peer conflict/bullying. Students are conveniently seen at school for their sessions, so caregivers do not have to worry about making the time to take them to an appointment.
The first two intake sessions—one with the parent and one with the student—are free of charge. Summit provides financial assistance to families who qualify for extra support and matches insurance rates. Please reach out if you think your child would benefit from counseling and would like more information. My email address is sscalabrino@summitcounseling.org. You can also call Summit directly at 678-893-5300 and visit our website at Mental Health Help in Schools | The Summit Counseling Center.
