
HIV Certification Training 2025-26

This training is for teachers who are responsible for instruction of students’ reproductive health, sexuality education, and/or HIV/AIDS education. State law mandates that every public school district provide HIV Prevention education at every building level (elementary, middle and high school). MDE recommends re-certification every 5 years.
We will provide participants with an overview of the law for HIV Prevention and Sex Education, HIV/STIs in Michigan, and foundational approaches to teaching effective HIV prevention and Sex Education, including answering student questions. Participants will understand the law as it pertains to Sex Education and HIV Prevention in the school setting, comprehend basic HIV/STIs in Michigan, build their professional disposition around teaching this topic with youth, and practice effective strategies for an at a distance setting.
25-26 HIV Certification is a hybrid format:
- 90 minute asynchronous work
- 90 minute synchronous zoom session
6-12 Registration

Please note: Middle School and High School Teachers must meet the state mandate as Fully Qualified Teachers of Health Education in order to teach this content in the classroom, which includes MA (health), MC (health and physical education), MX (health, physical education, recreation, and dance), or KH (family and consumer science) endorsements.
