Summer 2022 Edition - Updates
Gearing up for the New School Year
Greetings Learn@Home families!
We are excited as we continue to prepare for the new school year and hope our learners are gearing up for a fun and exciting school year ahead! Due to some unexpected delays in our updated and new student technology delivery, we will postponing and revamping our orientation to prevent families from having to make multiple visits to prepare for the new school year. We are moving our orientation to an "asynchronous" model, meaning that we are preparing a recording of our orientation for your viewing from the comfort of your home. This will be intended for you to watch along with your learner to become familiar with ways to partner with us to help them be successful this academic school year. Please note that this will need to be completed prior to your arrival to our Orientation Completion/Technology Pick-up Days. This will be delivered via Aeries/Parent Square communication with instructions by Thursday, August 4th.
Our new Orientation Completion and Technology Pick-Up Days are as follows:
Monday, August 8th 11am-2:30pm
Tuesday, August 9th 9am-11:30pm
What to expect at our Orientation Completion/Technology Pick-Up Days
- Verification of information
- Verification/distribution of schedules (middle school students) and teacher assignments
- Submission of immunization status documents
- Completion/submission of agreements
- Technology Pick-Up
- Material/Textbook pick-up (only as applicable)
- View items for spirit wear pre-orders
- Meet with our new counselor, Mrs. Spoon-Sadlon.
In order to prepare for these, please update your AERIES portal information at this time if you have not already done so. This is essential as you are required to confirm documents and finalize the registration process for each of your students. Please complete updates to contact information including mobile telephone numbers and email addresses so you receive updates/communication as we approach the beginning of the school year.
Supply Lists
We understand that our traditional schools are beginning to issue supply lists however, given our educational models, this may differ for us. Our students will be provided with the basic tools they need to access their virtual/home-based learning. As needs arise, your learner's teachers will communicate directly with you.
Tips to Help Your Learner Prepare for the New School Year
Long summer days make it challenging to maintain an early to bed routine. As we approach the school year, it is important that you begin establishing a healthy routine with your learner that includes healthy doses of sleep and exercise. For your reference, here you will find an article relating to sleep needs.
Discuss and establish a learning space or designated area where your learner will complete their day's school/work. This should be an area that is specifically designated for learning time with minimal distractions and ready access to needed materials and supplies.
Finally, get excited about school starting soon! Energize your learner about the possibilities this academic school year. Perhaps set bite-sized goals that are home and school related. How you frame school and learning has a huge impact on your learner!
Picture Day
Due to postponing our orientation days, our new Picture Day is scheduled for September, 9th 10-4. More information will be forthcoming.
PTA Launch!
This school year, we are excited to launch our school's PTA! We invite all families to participate in our interest meeting taking place in August to learn about the many ways that our PTA will be able to support our learners. Please refer to the event details at the bottom of this newsletter as this will be a virtual event.
Master/Learning Agreements
Our various educational options operate under Independent Study legislation, therefore all parents/legal guardians and students are required to review and sign Master or Learning Agreements this school year prior to students commencing the year with us. This applies both for new and returning students. If you have not yet completed and submitted one for your learner, you may do so at our Orientation Completion/Technology Pick-Up day or you may contact/visit us to secure one prior to expedite the process.
Additional Tidbits
- We understand that planning is important for our families, please find the 22-23 student calendar included in this newsletter for your reference. All Learn@Home programs follow our MVUSD calendar.
May you continue to enjoy the long summer days with your children. We look forward to seeing you soon!
