CENTENNIAL HIGHLIGHTS
ACADEMICS
SPIRIT Program Student Reflects On Time at CSD
Luke O'Donnell is a young man who has attended Centennial School District for his entire school career. As an elementary school student, he attended Davis Elementary. As a middle school teenager, he attended Klinger Middle School and as a young man, he attended William Tennent High School. Now he is completing his school career while attending the SPIRIT 18-22 Transition Program.
Luke is a hard working, clever, helpful, kind, and funny young man. His peers enjoy his company and his jokes. Luke was asked to reflect on his time in the Centennial School District and his words truly left a mark on those who he has befriended. We are so proud of his progress and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.
Log College's Model UN Club
Log College’s Junior Model UN Club attended their final UN Conference on Tuesday, May 14th at Temple University. The goal of Jr. Model UN is to work collaboratively to propose recommendations on solving two of the major world issues from the viewpoint of their assigned nation. Student delegates received badges that included their names, countries (Bangladesh or El Salvador), topics (Access to Clean Water or Reducing Income Inequality), and committee (#1 or #2).
Delegates prepared for this conference by creating position and resolution papers.
Upon arrival, students were split into small conference rooms based on their badges. Once in the conference rooms, delegates introduced themselves to delegates from other schools, and received directives from council leaders.
Delegates had the opportunity to collaborate with other schools representing different countries and to compromise on resolutions.
Congratulations to the first team of delegates and all your efforts!
Willow Dale's Silver Spoon Award Winners
Congratulations to Mrs. Totan's and Ms. Ricci's class on winning the Silver Spoon award on Crazy Hat Day! One of our initiatives through Schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) is positive behavior in the lunchroom. Mrs. Totan's and Ms. Ricci's classes have shown their PAWSOME behavior for the month of April . They were awarded a special table set up, lunch served by Mrs. Rindone, and a HUGE Silver Spoon to be held in the class for the remainder of May.
Wit & Wisdom Site Visit Success
This week, several Davis Elementary teachers warmly welcomed a group of Administrators from a neighboring school district to observe Wit & Wisdom, as they consider implementing the curriculum next school year. The classroom visits showcased students across grade levels engaging in instructional routines such as Mix and Mingle, Think-Pair-Share, Tableau, Jig Saw, and Socratic Seminar. In addition, the students took part in productive and meaningful discourse through the “Reveal” and “Distill” Content Stages. Second Graders and Fifth Graders synthesized the essential meaning of texts and expressed their knowledge through writing and speaking with peers in a Socratic Seminar.
The visiting team was extremely grateful to the Davis teachers and truly amazed by the robust learning activities and student engagement occurring at all levels. Many thanks to Mr. Ryan Oessenich for organizing the visit, Mrs. Rose Miele for hosting the visitors, the Davis teachers for welcoming the team, and the Davis students for showcasing their growth and learning through rigorous displays of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
