Firebird Nation Families and Students:

WOW! What a great first week! It has been an amazing start to the 2024-2025 school year. I appreciate how students have stepped up this week to show leadership and Firebird qualities both at FMS and the FMS Annex. Great Job!!

Although we had all students return last Friday, it has been so much fun this week to see our students and hear about their summer adventures as well as seeing how they have grown in just a few short weeks. We’ve enjoyed welcoming our new 6th grade students as well as meeting our new 7th and 8th graders. I encourage all students to continue to strive to be the best Firebirds they can be everywhere at FMS as well as at FMS Annex. I am excited to see the leadership our 8th and 7th graders are already showing our 6th graders and what it means to be a Firebird.

Our Firebirds have shown that they are rising to these challenges. I have seen Firebirds helping each other in classrooms and hallways. I have seen tremendous respect towards the staff, other students, and guests in the building. Students are sharing excitement about their teachers and teachers have told me how much they love their classes. Overall, it has been a very positive start and we look forward to building more momentum with this as the year progresses. Way to go Firebirds!

Please take a close look at all of the sections in this week's newsletter. There is so much to share about things going on around FMS! We look forward to seeing parents and students at FMS for Back to School night this coming Tuesday, August 13th. Please note, we are expecting record crowds, so we would request that only FMS students and 1 or 2 parents/guardians attend during this evening. Below is a schedule for this evening as well. We will also have food trucks available beginning at 4 pm on the 13th. FMS looks forward to the partnership with our parents, families, and community as we continue into this new year! Thank you for your support of Falcon Middle School and the commitment we all have to work together and support our students for future success. Together we are better and that is how we all RISE together!

Due to a printer error, not all students were able to have their picture taken and ID printed on Thursday, August 8, 2024. If your student did not have their picture taken, a second picture day has been scheduled for this coming Monday, August 12, 2024 at 12:00pm. Please check with you child to see if they need to come to school ready to have their picture taken on Monday.

Please join us for Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, August 13th from 5:30pm - 7:15pm. There will be an Athletic Parents Meeting to follow at 7:30pm in the Cafetorium.

Our A, B, and C teams have been announced, and the season is almost here! The practice schedule is as follows: FMS VB Practice Schedule. The season kicks off next week, and we’re looking forward to another successful year!

Football - FMS Football Website

Football has been working hard in preparation for the fall season. FMS will host a Football Jamboree Scrimmage on August 17th, starting at 9 a.m. Admission is $2, and concessions and merchandise will be available.

Cross Country

The Cross Country team has been preparing for their first meet, which will take place on August 13 in Fountain. Our athletes are ready to run and reach new heights on the course.

*FMS Eligibility Guidelines Update*

Throughout the school year, we will review eligibility for sports, clubs, and other activities. To help your child make the most of these opportunities, remind them to finish and submit their weekly assignments by Monday at 3pm. Assignments after this might not be graded before the grade check. Teachers will update grades in PowerSchool.

The Heads Up Eligibility Check takes place every Friday. Students who are struggling in a course(s) will receive a notification from the Athletic Director regarding their current failing grade status. The Final Eligibility Check is on Tuesday at 10 am. If, unfortunately, your child is deemed ineligible, both the student and parents will receive an email notification from the Athletic Director detailing their ineligible status for the week. Please review the FMS Eligibility Rules below:

FMS Eligibility Guidelines

• Heads up Eligibility Check is every Friday at 10am and Final Eligibility Check is Tuesday at 10am.
• A student-athlete with 1 or more failing grade(s) (F) on Tuesday's Final Eligibility Check will be considered INELIGIBLE.
  
• INELIGIBLE time period starts on Tuesday and continues through the following Tuesday morning. IF athletes are not on the next week’s eligibility report, they will be reinstated.
• A student-athlete that is on the Weekly Ineligibility List may practice with the team, however will not be able to suit-up or dress-out for any competitions or events during the duration of the ineligibility period. Also, no student-athlete who is ineligible will travel with the team.
• If a student-athlete appears on the ineligibility list for a third time in a sports season, they become ineligible for the remainder of the sport’s season and must turn in equipment and uniforms to the coaches as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to these details. We are excited to see your child's growth in both their studies and their extracurricular pursuits.
