Congratulations to Mr. Joannou for his promotion to the position to principal at Curington Elementary! We are very sad to see you leave Van Raub but so very excited for this opportunity for you! Thank you for everything that you have done for the students, staff and school community of VRES! You have left a mark on each of us here at Van Raub and have pushed us all to be better, for that we will be forever grateful. Your passion, determination, knowledge and leadership have been a blessing to us and we know it will be for your staff at Curington too. May you be abundantly blessed as you begin this new adventure! First of all, I want to personally thank Mr. Joannou for his contributions to making Van Raub the BEST place to be here in BISD! He has been my right hand and has pushed us all to be our BEST. I am excited for the great things that he will accomplish as he takes on this new role. Mr. Joannou - Thank you sir, a job well done here at VRES!

Secondly, We are very proud of the growth and successes that our students have shown throughout the first half of the 2024-2025 school year. We have already experienced many great things here on campus- our Dads on Duty volunteers, continuation of All Pro Dads, the 50th day of school, Red Ribbon Week, Book Character Parade, NCAA Fan Jam, Bike Rodeo, Photos with Santa, The VRES staff neighborhood caroling tour and holiday parties!

The spring semester will be jam packed as well! Keep an eye out for all of the fun activities headed your way in the upcoming events section - but here is a sneak peak - Drum Cafe, an author visit, 100th day of school, Field Day, BOA for 5th grade, PTO Glow Dance, a Cultural Night, Math/Science/Technology night, Literacy night and so much more!!!

Finally, as we enter the holidays- I want to take a moment to say thank you all for your support of our amazing campus. It takes all of us to make things work - we are partners in the the education of your children. We thank you for trusting us with your precious children everyday and thank you for all that you do to support our teachers, classrooms and each other. Van Raub is a special place because of all of you! THANK YOU!

Spirit Day - Cooper's Kingdom

Cooper's Kingdom, one of our Van Raub Elementary School sponsors, just opened in Boerne. Come experience the newest family entertainment venue with Indoor Mini-Golf and fun arcade games! Cooper's Kingdom is hosting a Van Raub Spirit Day on January 9th, 3 p.m. - 10 p.m. Can't make it on the 9th? Cooper's Kingdom will honor your VRES reservation on another day too. Just show them your reservation! Cooper's Kingdom will donate 15% proceeds back to VRES PTO!

We are in need of volunteers for Blessings in a Backpack for Van Raub. Volunteers will pick up empty bags at Van Raub, deliver to St. Peters Catholic Church gym, help with Blessings fulfillment and then return filled bags back to Van Raub. Most Blessings days fall on Thursdays, and take only an hour and half. Please take a look at our Sign up Genius for more information.

Mark your calendars for the Van Raub My Heart Glows Family Dance. This event is open to Van Raub students and their families only, and there is no cost to attend. More details coming soon!

In 2005, Texas School Counselor Association began a program called CREST to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal social domains. The Texas School Counseling Association is proud to announce CREST winners for the 2024-2025 school year.

CREST is a continuous improvement document that gives a school counseling program an opportunity to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to obtaining results. CREST helps counselors to evaluate their counseling programs, promote their programs to the stakeholders in their districts, demonstrate the effectiveness of their guidance and counseling programs through empirical means, and to implement the Texas and National models for school counseling programs.

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

· Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor

· Program Implementation Cycle

· Foundational Components

· Four Service Delivery Components

· Program Curriculum

The counseling team prepares a digital submission that highlights these areas and communicates just what the counseling program is doing to help students succeed. These are sent to reviewers throughout the state of Texas to be judged according to pre-set standards of excellence.

Congratulations to Van Raub Elementary for being one of an elite group of schools from across the state to win the CREST Award for Counseling Excellence for 2024!
