Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis
A Wonderful Gift
As many families celebrate various holidays this time of year and give gifts to one another, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you Oakview parents for the gifts you give each day. The gifts of your time, love, service, money, organizational skills, and the list goes on are so evident in the life of our school. As we approach Winter Break and the midway point to the school year in January, I want to thank you for sharing your gifts with Oakview! Thank you on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students! You are an amazing community.
Coat Drive
Student Council is sponsoring a Coat Drive, December 4 - 8. We are collecting new and gently used coats of all sizes, from babies to adults. Student Council representatives will be in both car lines every morning next week to collect the coats, which will be taken to local homeless shelters in Greenville County. Thank you so much for your support!
Shoes, Shoes, and More Shoes
Thank you to everyone who donated shoes to America Recycles Week. Our grand total was 1,125 donated pairs of shoes! These shoes will be sent to Africa to be sold at a low cost so families making only $1/month can have access to nice shoes. This keeps them out of the landfill (and our closets) and saves resources that would be needed to make new ones.
Congratulations Mrs. Hawkins
Congratulations to Katelin Hawkins, Oakview music teacher, who received a $500 ABC Grant! The funds from the grant were used for professional development for Mrs. Hawkins as she expands her teaching strategies with students. She is using her new training to implement the Kodály method of music instruction. The method, referred to as the Kodály concept, is an approach to music education developed in Hungary during the mid-twentieth century by Zoltán Kodály. His philosophy of education served as inspiration for the method, which was then developed over a number of years by his associates. Congratulations, Mrs. Hawkins!

Letter from the PTA President
Welcome to December! I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and are hunkered down to finish the year strong. We do have a few things coming up between now and our Winter Break. Next week, the Student Council and PTA are teaming up for a Coat and Toy Drive. Details are below and we certainly appreciate all of your donations!
We will also have our Winter PTA General Membership Meeting this Monday night, December 4th, at 6:30 p.m. Our meeting will be followed by the Oakview Chorus’ Holiday Concert so please plan to attend to support our students!
And, lastly, it wouldn’t be December without presents. Our Elf Shelf Committee has been working diligently to make this Elf Shelf our best one yet so please be on the lookout for details coming home with your student and be sure to return the money on your child’s shopping day! For those new to Oakview, our Elf Shelf is a shopping experience whereby students pre-select 2 presents and then come to pay for them and pick them up the week of December 11. The presents will be wrapped so remember “No peeking!” We hope that you will enjoy using what your children have picked up over the holidays and certainly thank you for your support of this fun event!
So many of you have asked about the playground and I promise you that we are still working diligently on the details for bricks, design, etc. Stay tuned for details on how to pay for your pledged bricks in the very near future!
Serving With You,
Jennifer Burns

PTA’s Jingle Bell Drop Joining with Student Council’s Coat Drive December 4 - 8
As many of you know, during December, we take toy donations to make Christmas for many much brighter! This year, we will continue to take up toys that will be donated to Toys for Tots; but, we are also joining with the Oakview Student Council to support their Coat Drive.
Along with new toys, we will be collecting new or gently-used coats for males and females of all sizes, from babies to adults. All donations will go to local homeless shelters in Greenville County. Student Council members will be working in both morning car lines to collect donations the week of December 4-8! Thank you so much for your generosity!
Elf Shelf - December 12 - 15
ELF SHELF celebrates the gift of giving during the holiday season and provides students with an opportunity to purchase affordable, pre-wrapped gifts for loved ones. Students will be bringing information home Dec. 4th; please make note of your child’s shopping day and return the money to their teacher on that day. Teachers are not able to hold onto the money, so please send it in on their actual shopping day.
**Please Note: Dec 15th is an “extra shopping day” where students who have leftover money can go back to the store to buy additional items**
