Be a Leader. Be You. Be Barry.
Barry Elementaryβs Nancy Denig Named Christa McAuliffe Winner!
Sixteen PCR-3 staff members were nominated for two categories: Excellence in Classroom Teaching and Excellence in Service to Education. Seven were honored with a special award, and Nancy Denig, 4th Grade Teacher at Barry Elementary, was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Classroom Teaching honor. This award has been given since 1987 to the most outstanding nominee for Excellence in Classroom Teaching from all of the Northland school districts.
From her nomination: "Simply put, thereβs just something about the feeling when you walk into Nancy Denigβs room. The calm that washes over you makes you feel part of the community, to strive to be your best self, and allows you to struggle through changes with someone you trust by your side. When asking a student why they loved being in Mrs. Denigβs class, the answer could not come fast enough. She immediately said, 'Because she knows me and loves me for it.' Imagine being a student that feels seen, known, and loved everyday. Thatβs Mrs. Denig."

βΊTHE STUDENTS VOTED! Next years Barry Elementary students will be "camping" at
CAMP LEADERSHIP!
Mr. Lyle did a lesson for Mrs. Pickett's class and Miss Jones' class. He is a retired art teacher who loves to work with students to show them how they can make art fun!
Field Day could not have happened without the help of our PTA and local community. Last week, we shouted out our station leaders. This week, we would like to thank our donors!
First and foremost... Barry PTA!
- PTA funds the entire Field Day and looks to buy us equipment our students can enjoy for years!
- If you aren't a member of PTA, it's an easy decision. Sign-up here.
- Joining PTA does not automatically sign you up for any more duties, meetings, or responsibilities. A member can be as involved as his or her heart desires, but I can tell you as a teacher that it helps teachers grow our programs! Thank you, PTA!
Andy's Frozen Custard in Tiffany Springs (across from the Marshall's and Target shopping area) donated 550 frozen custards for our students, staff, and volunteers to enjoy at Field Day! What an insanely generous gift and I can tell you, from a recent strawberry shortcake order, that the custard is insanely good. We are wildly lucky Andy's continues to value our Barry and Pathfinder Field Days!
Days before our Field Day, a big water donation fell through and our Northland Costco Wholesale didn't flinch to step in at the last second and donate water bottles to all of our volunteers and teachers! Costco even encouraged us to hit them up next year... and as I say during my weekly trips to Costco... "don't mind if I do."
Last but not least... Platte Purchase Middle School. Allowing 30 (many of them former Pathfinder pirates) students to run our Field Day Stations has been a phenomenal experience for all. This district partnership allows students who once loved Field Day to take on leadership roles and still join in on the fun. Thank you Mrs. Amanda Griffin, National Junior Honor Society, and Dr. Jeff Adams for gathering these volunteers and getting them back and forth safely!
Barry Elementary is very grateful for our selfless community. These donations allow more and more PTA funds to go towards Field Day equipment that we will continue to use for our P.E. and Health programs for years to come!
The students are so excited about reading after learning about the Summer at MCPL reading challenge! The challenge is 85 days from June 1st- August 24th with some really cool events. Check out more about it on their website HERE!

NEW CDC GUIDELINES
Hello!
The CDC no longer requires 5 days of quarantine after a COVID diagnosis. That means the district also no longer requires a 5 day quarantine for staff or students. You are required to stay home until symptoms improve and no fever for 24 hours on no medication - just like our guidance for other illnesses.

Community Events
Auditions are open for the Youth Chorus of Kansas City 2024-2025 season!
For our elementary singers, YCKC's next season includes performances with the Kansas City Current at their new CPKC Stadium, a performance at the Kauffman Center with the Spire Chamber choir, and much more.
YCKC offers a safe, inviting, and inclusive rehearsal environment centrally located in the Kansas City Metro. Scholarship support is available, and we proudly offer financial aid for 100% of requests. Our goal is that financial barriers never prevent a student from participating.
YCKC is growing in every way each year! The next season marks the first year of YCKC Etude for young singers in grades K-2.
Please consider sharing this opportunity with the family of a singer today! To learn more or register for an audition, visit youthchoruskc.org/auditions

π Safe Schools
Bullying and Safety Concerns: Online Reporting System
Safety is one of our districtβs top priorities, and to help safeguard our school community, our District uses Safe Schools Alert, a tip reporting service by Vector Solutions, that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.
You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through this online reporting system. On the homepage of the District website (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com) and on each school building's homepage there is a Safe Schools quicklink which links to the reporting tool. Every tip Vector Solutions receives about our District is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer. Together, we can make our District a safer place to learn.
π Lunch Visitor Sign Up & Menus
Parents & Guardians,
We love that many of you take the time to come eat with your children! To help the staff in the lunchroom we would appreciate if you could please follow the expectations listed below:
- Please only invite your specific children to eat with you.
- Help your children follow the lunchroom expectations the rest of the cafeteria is asked to follow like remaining at the table until their class is dismissed.
- When you have finished your lunchtime, please return to the front office rather than making rounds through the cafeteria to say hello to other students. The other students would love a wave though!
Thank you for wanting to be a part of our school community and we'll see you at lunch!
Lunch Sign Ups and Menus
Here is the link to Nutrislice for the menus. You can also access it on the district website under Food Service. If you click the link, then choose Barry and then bookmark it, it should take you to Barry menus each time. If there are changes to the menu for the week, they will be updated here first.
ATTENTION: Next school year 2024-2025 we will only allow lunch visits ONCE PER QUARTER. This is to ensure that everyone is getting the opportunity and time slots that work for them. Also, we understand if younger siblings have to accompany but they MUST stay at the table with you and can not roam freely in the lunchroom. You will be asked not to return for lunch if the issue persists.
Thank you.
