The Crawford Connection
November 2024
Dear Crawford Families,
We hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend and we look forward to seeing our students tomorrow!
Our students have been doing a great job following expectations and working hard in their classes. Let's keep up the good work by reinforcing our school expectations and encouraging students to bring their best selves to school each day. We appreciate the support of our families in this effort.
The midterm of the second nine weeks is quickly upon us and ends this Friday, November 15. Please contact teachers about any missing assignments to make sure content has been mastered and to help improve grades. You can always check your student's progress on Infinite Campus at:
https://fayetteky.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/fayette.jsp.
We look forward to another great month with our Crawford students and families.
Sincerely,
Dr. Trimble, Mrs. Piatt, Ms. Shockey, and Mr. Castillo

Title I Family Engagement
We hope everyone gained some valuable information at our “Tricks & Treats” Fall Conference last month. For this month, we hope you connect with Crawford as we partner with Love on a Leash® for a “Barks with Books” family event during our Scholastic® Book Fair! On Thursday, November 21st, families are invited to either (or both) a morning and evening session to join their children in reading with Love on a Leash® volunteers and their canine companions. Our library will be open from 7:00-8:00 before school and again from 6:00-7:00 after school for anyone who wants to read with the dogs and shop our Book Fair. There will be discounted prices and other special promotions. Invitations will be shared in your child’s team newsletters and online closer to the date. Please contact our librarian, Mrs. Greer, at nichole.greer@fayette.kyschools.us with any questions or concerns.
Please note that Love on a Leash® requires all students to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and that there may be wait times depending on the ratio of people to pets.

Attendance
Reporting procedure
Within 3 (three) days of their return to school after an absence, a student shall present a written note to the designated staff member, signed by his or her parent/guardian or licensed healthcare professional, that should include:
- The current date
- The student’s (printed) first and last name
- The date(s) of the absence(s) (not just the days of the week)
- The reason for the absence(s); and
- The parent/guardian signature
If a signed excuse is not received within 3 (three) days, the absent event shall be deemed unexcused.
A parent/guardian may submit via email a picture or scanned attachment of their signed parent note. For medically-related excuses, the parent/guardian must submit the original medical excuse, which may be requested from the licensed healthcare professional for the records of the parent/guardian. Medically-related excuses faxed from the office of the licensed healthcare professional will also be accepted.
Contact our Attendance Specialist at tracy.hobbs@fayette.kyschools.us for questions or assistance.
Students with Perfect Attendance for Quarter One
At Crawford, We Lead!
Device Free Learning Environment
Expectation:
All students must place cell phones, earbuds/headphones, and other electronic devices in their lockers when they first arrive to their pod.
All adults will model appropriate device usage (not wearing earbuds, not using devices during class or in the hallway, etc…)
Procedure When Expectation is Not Met:
After 9:05, if a student is in possession of an electronic device, the teacher will call RESET.
The device will be confiscated by administration and returned to the student at the end of the school day.
If a student is in possession of an electronic device in the hallway or a time not in class, report to administration.
Violations:
1st Violation:
Admin collects, tracks on form, and returns to the student at the end of the day
Admin calls the family to inform of cell phone policy and steps
2nd Violation:
Admin collects, tracks on form, and returns to the student at the end of the day
Teacher calls the family to notify of the second violation. The first call from admin will be in PLP so teacher can reference date if necessary.
3rd Violation:
Admin collects, tracks on form, and returns to student at the end of the day
Admin calls the family to notify of the third violation.
Student will turn in the phone to GL Admin for the next 3 school days.
Students will turn the device in at arrival and will get it back at dismissal.
4th+ Violation:
Admin collects, tracks on form, and returns to student at the end of the day
Admin calls family to notify of violation.
Student will turn in the phone to GL Admin for the next 4+ school days.
GL Counselor provides a reteaching lesson during elective class.
Non-Compliant Students:
If a student refuses to give up cell phone or device to admin, administrators will follow FCPS Student Code of Conduct for failure to follow staff instructions.
Backpacks and Lockers
We will be using lockers this year and our expectation is that phones and non-clear backpacks are secured in them all day. We require students to keep their backpacks, large bags, and purses in their lockers, unless they are clear. Clear backpacks/bags/purses help ensure that students are not bringing things they are not supposed to into their classes (such as snacks, drinks, and other contraband). Doing this provides an environment for students to focus on instruction rather than external distractions.
Since each FCPS student is assigned a chromebook, this eliminates multiple textbooks needing to be carried. Students will be permitted to use their lockers upon arrival, at lunch (if necessary), and at dismissal. Any other times, students will need to have permission from an adult.
Crawford Daily Schedule
The lunch period is highlighted in green on the schedule and is 75 minutes with 25 of it allotted for lunch. Your child’s teacher will communicate specific lunch times with students. We also will have a 30 minute class called Leader in Me this year.
