JACKSON MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of Jackson Elementary School is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment in order to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students.
JACKSON VISION STATEMENT:
We are mission-driven, highly motivated, and maintain the highest expectations for ourselves, our students, and our colleagues. Our students are precious, and we will treat them kindly and with love every day. All of our students will succeed academically no matter what! Our tenacity and focus on what’s best for our children will guide our actions every day.
Hello Jackson Families!
Hello February! The month of February has gotten off to a great start with some spring-like temperatures and sunny skies! This month is usually considered a transition from the colder winter months to warmer weather--unless you believe the famous weather-predicting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil! Yesterday, on Groundhog Day, the celebrity groundhog saw his shadow in Gobbler's Knob, Pennsylvania and predicted 6 more weeks of winter! At least February is short and sweet, filled with the promise of love, kindness and acceptance! We will be celebrating Friendship Week at Jackson next week from February 10-14th. Please see the flyer below for our themed dress-up days.
We want to thank all of our Jackson family members and community partners who volunteered to speak about their careers at Jackson's Career Day. A special shout-out to: Monique Battiste, Monica Emanuelli, Jessica Miller, Anjelica Solano and the Police Officers from the City of Plano. Our 3rd-5th grade students really enjoyed learning about careers they can aspire to in the future and the educational requirements for these careers. Thank you, Ms. Hardy, Ms. Sollie and Ms. Ventura for coordinating this informative event along with our AMPED team who helped with monitoring students and translating during Career Day!

Students also received a certificate, wristband, and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office. The Jaguar of the Month trait for February is Honesty - being truthful in what you say and do. We are certain that we will see many students displaying the Honesty trait this month. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!
This week, February 3-7, is National School Counseling Week. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February and is a chance for us to recognize our fabulous counselors, Ms. Hardy and Ms. Sollie! Our counselors make a huge impact on student success in school by guiding our students through the development of character values, social/emotional skills and other important life and self-management skills. The elementary years are such important formative years and we are so lucky to have two wonderful counselors focused on meeting our students' developmental needs. Thank you, Ms. Hardy and Ms. Sollie, for everything you do for Jackson students, our staff and our community!
Also this week, the Jungle Patrol Bus is scheduled to be at Jackson on Wednesday, February 5, for a chance to build a stuffed animal. Students will leave with a stuffy and a wonderful memory! Order forms are below.
Families are invited to attend Jackson's Family C.A.R.E. Night on Thursday, February 6, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. There will be interactive games and activities to support the elements of Character, Attendance and Restorative Education (C.A.R.E.). Hope to see you there!
During the past few weeks, we have been seeing a higher than normal number of sick students in the Jackson clinic. To prevent the spread of illness, please do not send your children to school if they have a temperature over 100 degrees. Please keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. If your child is vomiting or having diarrhea, they should also remain home until they are symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medications and they are able to successfully eat 2 meals. If you have any questions or concerns, our school nurse, Ms. Wheeler, will be glad to speak with you.
Thank you!

The district calendars for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years have been published. Please use these dates to plan family vacations when school is not in session. It is important that students do not miss school for vacations that can be planned during times of school closure. The Texas State Attendance law requires students to be in school for at least 90% of the school days in order to not face the possibility of being retained in that grade level and parents facing required court appearance and possible fines. If your child is absent from school, you must email the secretary to let her know why they are out (sick, doctor appointment, etc.). Thank you!

Classroom Lessons
Welcome to the Counselors’ Corner! We will use this section of the eNews to inform you all of topics we will be covering in our Counselor lessons and any other important or useful information! Students come with their class to the counselor bi-weekly to receive lessons. We absolutely love this time with them!
For our next lesson, the weeks of 02/03 & 02/10, we will focus on Friendship and Kindness. During these lessons, students will learn how to create positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students who are similar to and different from them. We will discuss what a good friend is, how to create and maintain meaningful connections, how to get along with others, and ways to show kindness. We will also focus on creating a sense of acceptance, respect, support, and inclusion for others. Students will feel empowered to be their best selves through kindness! Kindness is a powerful tool for nurturing the well-being of everyone! Our goal is for students to understand the importance of demonstrating kindness and compassion so they can be citizens that positively impact the world around them! This will directly tie in with our Friendship Week!
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (Grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the program, CharacterStrong. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, wristband, and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal, and Mr. Riggle, our assistant principal!
Our Jaguar of the Month Trait for February is Honesty! Our definition of Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do. Check out the CharacterStrong Family Letter (English) / CharacterStrong Family Letter (Spanish) for more information about PurposeFull People and some fun ways you can join us in teaching and reinforcing Responsibility! Monthly Family Newsletters will be sent home that outline the CharacterStrong skills students are learning in class and provide fun ideas to grow as a family at home.
We hope you find this Counselors’ Corner helpful! Please never hesitate to reach out for anything! We are always here to support you and your students!
