CTE Teacher Preparation Program
CTE Teacher Prep News and Updates for Fall 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR
Dear Teachers, Mentors, and Administrators,
Welcome to a New Year of the CTE Teacher Preparation Program! I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible impact you make every day in the lives of your students and the broader community. No matter your role, your work as an educator truly makes a difference. I often hear stories from both students and adults about the lasting influence teachers have had on their lives, and the profound impact continues year after year.
Our theme this year is to “Be the Teacher You Needed as a Student.” I encourage you to take time to reflect on this—think about the teachers and mentors who shaped your own journey. Now, you have the opportunity to be that guiding force for those around you and our team is here to support you every step of the way.
Thank you for your dedication and all you do each day. Your contributions are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated. Let’s embrace this school year with the shared understanding that your commitment is truly making a difference!
Cheers,
Jillian

CA Educators Together Group- CA Career Resources Network
California’s official resource for career exploration and planning
The California Career Resource Network (CalCRN) program in the California Department of Education provides career development information and resources to support development of the critical career self-management skills necessary for success in today's world of work.
Young Worker Rights Fact Sheet
This is a reminder that beginning August 1st, all districts and charters must issue a young worker rights fact sheet whenever a minor submits a B1-1 Intent To Employ A Minor form per AB 800 Bill Text - AB-800 Workplace Readiness Week: work permits. (ca.gov)
The Fact Sheet must be a physical piece of paper, not a link to a website, and must address the topics listed in the new law. To help schools comply, the Labor Education Center at UC Berkeley with an interagency workgroup designed a template that schools can use that has been linked to the CDE work permit page: Work Permits for Students - Work Experience Education (WEE) (CA Dept of Education)
First Ever California Drone Competition
First Ever California Drone Competition
Two teachers from Shasta County, Brett Hodge from Foothill High School and Sonsoles Abbott, are excited to bring the first ever Aerial Drone Competition to California. Saturday, February 15th.
They are looking to recruit more middle and high school teams to help make this a robust North State competition.
Both of these teachers took a few minutes to fill out this grant form to receive their free drones and practice field for the competition. Please share this opportunity with an appropriate contact for your school that might be interested in joining.
According to Drone Industry Insights, the global drone market is anticipated to grow from 26.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2021 to 54.6 billion U.S. dollars by 2030. FLYERNorth Far North Provides Free Access to Soft Skills Training
Everyone deserves an equal chance to not only survive but thrive at work and in life. We believe
in order to create an environment of equity and inclusion, training content has to be available
for all participants. This includes students, adult learners, job seekers, and employees. With that
in mind, we have partnered with the Essential Skills Program (ESP) allowing our region and
partners access to ESP’s 10 Soft Skills Modules.

Congrats to our CTE Teacher Preparation Program Candidate!
The class instructor, Derrick Jones, told KRCR that safety is a major part of the curriculum.
“What I hope for the kids to get out of this would be to have some class that they look forward to coming to school for, and then through that class they can find the relevancy of English and math, the courses they already have to take anyways,” Jones said. “Not only are we making kids job ready, but trying to make them to where they’re better situated to be college ready if they choose to.”
