ELA
We are currently learning about comparing and contrasting using fiction text. The kids are learning to look at two similar pieces of literature and compare and contrast them using correlating vocabulary. They are also looking at characters and understanding how to compare and contrast character traits and feelings.
The next few weeks we will be writing a mystery in 3rd person. The kids are using a picture and writing a story centered around it. I will use this piece and the spooktacular piece as their grade for 3rd person narrative.
Remember to have your child read every night. Their homework expectation is that they do read and meet their AR goal. As we approach the end of the quarter, many of the kids have already met their goals. I am very proud of their efforts they have shown this quarter. Check in with your child to see how they are doing. Points are due on Wednesday, December 19. Expect a celebration when we return to school in January.

Our field trip was a huge success! I hope you were able to talk with your child about their day. This is a field trip that they remember for a long time. The kids really learn a great deal about life through this simulation. Thank you to all that were able to attend. I hope you found it to be great experience with your child.
Now that we are past economics, the rest of our year will focus on US History. This is my favorite and I am looking forward to sharing with the kids.
Our first unit is going to be Native American study. We created Native American names and wrote a Native American story using symbols this week to get a jump start. For the next week, we will begin learning about tribes of various regions of the US and their ways of living. We will continue into the new year and conclude with a test and project. I will make sure to share with you the dates as they become set.
