PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
February is a month filled with kindness and positive energy. I would like to wish our entire Owl Nation a Happy Valentine’s Day! I feel blessed to be your elementary principal and I am proud of our children, families, staff, and the surrounding community. In fact, I am thoroughly convinced that The House of Love has the best students in the world! I love our work ethic. I love our kind Owl hearts. I love that I have an amazing teaching and support staff. Thank you for your kindness, smiles, and support with behaviors, homework, and modeling the importance of a solid education. Please keep backing our staff and our school.
WINTER GEAR
- As the cold weather continues, we would like to stress the importance of students wearing the appropriate winter outerwear. Our goal is to have children go outside for recess whenever possible because outdoor play is not just FUN, it is also good for them. According to health experts, children who play outside are happier, healthy, and stronger.
- Children should come to school and ride the bus wearing a jacket, gloves, scarves, boots, etc. as needed.
- If your child is in need of outerwear, please contact the front office for support.
Special Note Regarding Valentine’s Day:
Valentine’s Day celebrations are not a Nolan school function. Valentine’s Day cards MAY be distributed at school WITHOUT candy attached to them.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours. The liability associated with giving students home baked goods is greater than the school can allow. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEACHER, MRS.SPIVEY
How can you be an advocate for your child? Parents are often the best educational advocates for their children, especially children with a learning disability. Here are some tips to assist you in becoming an advocate for your child. First, let us learn the rules. All public schools provide special services for children with disabilities, but the criteria may vary from state to state. Contact the Department of Education or your local school district office. Secondly, keep records. You should always keep a file of your students’ educational and assessment information. This can include report cards, progress reports, and even homework. Next, communicate effectively. Come to parent conferences to make sure that you are clear, calm, and direct when speaking. If necessary, put things in writing. Know your child’s strengths and weaknesses and share them with educators. Share this information with your child’s teacher as this information can be critical in identifying learning accommodations.
These are just a few ways in which you can advocate for your child and provide solutions in their learning process. Remember to focus on the big picture. We are in this together!
