PTSA
PTSA Needs a Volunteer!
We’re looking for a person (or two) to lead our Dollars for Scholars initiative. Every year, the PTSA provides one or more graduating seniors with funds to attend the college, university, or trade school of their choice. We have already identified sufficient funding for 2024-25 but we need a volunteer (or two) to lead this vitally important effort!
Do you have to attend every PTSA meeting to volunteer? No!

Attendance
**Please email attendance notes or questions to: FHS.attendance@fcps.org
ATTENDANCE – ABSENCE/EARLY DISMISSAL
Students are expected to maintain acceptable attendance. Acceptable attendance is missing no more than 2 days per month or at most 18 days (excused or unexcused) for the entire school year. Poor attendance may result in lack of academic progress, ineligibility for extracurricular activities, disciplinary action, and loss of academic credit. The following attendance procedures and policies apply to all students (FCPS Regulation 400-98 Student Attendance): https://apps.fcps.org/legal/documents/400-98/history/263
RETURNING FROM AN ABSENCE
All written notes and emails must include the First and Last name of the student, date(s) of absence, the reason for the absence, and the signature of the parent/guardian.
Notes and attendance documentation may be emailed to the FHS.attendance@fcps.org.
LATE ARRIVALS TO SCHOOL
Classes begin promptly at 7:30AM. Teachers will close their doors and begin class immediately.
Students arriving to class after 7:30AM must report to the Attendance Office for a late slip. Students who arrive after 9AM must have a doctor’s note or administrative approval to participate in an extracurricular activity that day, including athletic practices.
*Missing the bus, over sleeping, and traffic problems are considered unexcused latenesses.
EARLY DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL
Students who need to leave for any reason during the school day must present a written note from a parent/guardian to the Attendance Office at the beginning of the school day.
Attendance staff will attempt to verify all notes and will issue a pass to the student upon verification.
Students leaving campus without a pass will be considered truant and will receive disciplinary consequences.
Students must sign in at the Attendance Office upon their return to school.
ILLNESS AT SCHOOL
Students who are ill must have a pass from a teacher to report to the Health Suite. This process will allow for an excused absence.
Health Suite staff will evaluate students and contact parents as necessary.
Students may not arrange parent pick-up without seeing the school nurse.
VACATION DAYS AND COLLEGE VISITS
Absences for family trips or college visits will be excused with prior administrative approval.
FCPS policy permits students taking trips with their parents to be excused no more than twice during the school year for a combined maximum of 5 days.
FCPS policy permits students to visit prospective colleges for up to 4 days per school year.
Students should complete and return the Vacation/College Visit Form to the Attendance Office prior to the planned absences.
Students are responsible for notifying teachers of the absence and arranging make-up work.
ATTENDANCE AND DANCES
Students must have an attendance rate of 85% or above to attend all school dances including, but not limited to, Homecoming and Prom.
