Chamisa Fence Meeting Update
Meeting 12/12/18 6:00-7:30
Clarification
I hope you all know that on Wednesday, December 12th from 6:00-7:30, we will have a public meeting regarding our fence project. The meeting will be held in the Chamisa gym.
The purpose of the meeting will be to answer questions and take suggestions. The clarification is that the district has accepted a grant from the state and Chamisa will get the fence. The meeting is not about whether or not it will happen.
I have had some feedback from staff and parents and I would like to respond to the biggest concerns here:
1. The campus will still be available to the community after school and on weekends. We want everyone to have the same access they have always enjoyed.
2. The gates will be open before school so that children and parents who walk can still come onto campus from the back.
3. There will not be fencing covering the front of the school. There will be decorative fencing that goes from the parking lots to the building, creating a single point of access.
4. This is perimeter fencing that completes fencing we already have, not security fencing. The point is to have better access control. The fence is one piece of safety in a broader picture. We realize this is not a cure-all.
5. We are still in the design phase and will have staff and community input as to how it will look and be configured.
The meeting will be attended by our Assistant Superintendent, Jennifer Guy, Officer Chris Ross (School Security Officer), Susan Fellows (district safety) and Herb McLean, district facilities. The evening will be a good and open dialog regarding this change to the property.
We look forward to seeing you.
Best regards,
Suzanne
