Maize Middle School
A Message From Our Principal Mr. Cramer
Hey MMS Eagle Families!
It is hard to believe but we have completed our 3rd nine weeks and our headed down the home stretch in the 23/24 MMS Story. Thank you for your continued partnerships and I am looking forward to a strong finish.
Attendance: Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors leading to a successful academic and social experience. As a reminder, any time your student is absent for an appointment please establish the routine of submitting a note to school so attendance can be coded correctly. Per district policy any absence over seven will require documentation in addition to parent communication.
Lanyards/ID: One of our policies to help maintain a safe environment is that all students are expected to wear their photo identification on a school issued lanyard each day. We have worked hard to develop practices and routines with the new process.. Almost all of our students have them each day. We are now working on ensuring they wear them throughout the day. We will continue to provide needed reminders and follow up with students as needed including assigning consequences as appropriate for students that repeatedly do not have their lanyard and ID at school. Your support in this is greatly valued.
After School Pick Up: In order to maintain a safe environment for students please exercise patience and follow parking lot markings when picking up students in the afternoons. We need specific help from you in our south lot. Please pull up curbside or utilize identified parking stalls to wait on students. If we form multiple lines or park outside the stalls it creates congestion, frustration, and safety concerns. Please work together as adults to best support our students in this. In addition students should exit school grounds promptly. Bus departure is no later than ten minutes following dismissal. If your student is eligible to ride a bus and chooses to be a car rider please have them picked up by then or plan to have them ride the bus. In addition, students that are walkers/bike riders should exit right at dismissal and no later than 10 minutes following dismissal. This allows us to provide proper supervision of our students during dismissal and helps us keep them safe. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Spring Assessments:. We will give state assessments in April. The dates we have identified are April 1-2 (7th/8th ELA) April 10-11 (7th/8th Math) and April 12&15 (8th Science). Please add these to your family calendars and plan for students to be in attendance these days. Students will also take the spring fastbridge benchmark on May 1 (ELA) and May 8 (Math). These assessments are vital to our data and help us inform decisions for your student and our school. They matter and we appreciate your support in making them matter at home too!
Boys tennis has begun and track will start following spring break. In addition, we have had multiple concerts this spring and more to come. Our choir, band, and orchestra students recently performed at the WSL festivals and made us proud. We have some talented students at MMS!
We have had a great first 75% of the year and are looking forward to a strong finish. As I have reminded students and staff if we do not tell our story someone else will and they will leave out all of the good stuff! We also invite all of you to be part of telling our story. If you have questions, concerns, suggestions, or affirmations please share with us.
Sincerely,
Chad Cramer

A Note From The Counselors
State Assessments:
State Assessments are right around the corner! Here is a parent guide to the Kansas Assessment Program. Due to test security, students will not be allowed to have cell phones or smart watches with them during testing.
Don’t stress! Consider these helpful tips to ensure your student feels confident and comfortable with the testing process:
Attend school daily and arrive on time to ensure students don’t feel rushed or have to worry about a make up test
Get a good night of sleep before the test
Eat a good breakfast
Encourage students to try their best and to select the best answer for each question
Take deep breaths and remember that a state test is just one data point when looking at student achievement
Test dates are as followed:
English Language Arts: April 1st and 2nd
Math: April 10th and 11th
Science: April 12th and 15th (8th Grade ONLY)
Social Studies: Classroom-based assessment (7th Grade ONLY)
