Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families,
Thanksgiving Reflections and Updates
I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful Thanksgiving Feast we had. The turnout was fantastic, and it was heartwarming to see so many families coming together to celebrate. Our students were thrilled to have their families present, and the food was absolutely delicious—huge thanks to Linda Hill and our amazing cafeteria staff for making it all happen!
The Art Show was also a big success. It was so inspiring to see all our talented artists showcased, and I'm so grateful to Laura Stowers for bringing this special event to life for our Hawks.
A big congratulations to everyone involved in our Book Fair this year—thanks to Jenny Soberanis for her hard work. We had record sales, which means so much for our school community. There's nothing better than seeing everyone come together to support these events. It truly felt like a big family celebrating the holiday together.
As we head into the break, I wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Take this time to relax and enjoy your family, as we head into the final stretch of the semester. Can you believe there are only three weeks left after the break?
Fall Football Update
The Dawgs had an exciting win last weekend against Tennessee! Tomorrow, they’ll face UMASS, followed by GA Tech. Go Dawgs!!
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday and much-needed rest!

Thank you, PTA!
'Tis the season to be thankful, and we certainly are of our amazing HSES staff! So much so, that the PTA treated them all to Panera for lunch Thursday. We hope they gobbled it up!
From the Media Center
On behalf of the Media Center, we are so thankful for our Hembree community and your support of the Book Fair. It was a great success! Thank you to all of our volunteers who donated their time to help make it happen. We couldn't have done it without you!
From the Art Room
Thank you so much for making the Live Art Show such a success. There is still time to support your school and Art Program by participating in the Virtual Art Show! Every frame purchased contributes funds towards your child’s Art Education. The entire School Community can support the Arts! Grandparents, family, and friends you share your child’s artwork with, can also support your school when they purchase a Framed Reproduction of the masterpiece! https://artomestore.com/collections/hembreespringselementaryschool30076
From PTA
We are thrilled to announce that HSES PTA has been awarded a $1,500 grant from the National PTA to implement the PTA Connected: Ready, Tech, Go! program, supported by AT&T. This exciting initiative will help equip our students and families with the skills and tools needed to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.
A big thank you to National PTA and AT&T for making this possible, and to all of our PTA members and volunteers who continue to support the growth and success of our school community.
Help Support Our Giving Closet!
Dear Hembree Families,
As the holiday season approaches, we’re reminded of the incredible generosity that makes our community so special. This year, we’re asking for your help to stock our school’s Giving Closet, a resource that provides essential items to families in need within our school.
The Giving Closet relies entirely on donations, and together we can make a meaningful difference. Please see below for what we are currently in need of.
You can also order from our Wal-mart wishlist, and deliver it straight to the school!
https://www.walmart.com/registry/TR/37a36bf0-9c90-4a97-b66a-7462e68ae522
Every contribution, no matter how small, helps ensure that all of our students and families feel supported and cared for.
Together, let’s show the power of our community’s compassion. Thank you for your kindness and generosity—your support means everything to our students and their families.
Warm regards,
Sara Fuchs

Teacher of the Year and Professional of the Year Nominations
Parents/Guardians, We Need You!
This is the time that we begin the process of recognizing the great work that our teachers and staff accomplish each day. You’ve always heard that educators are not “in it for the money”, which is true, but a little recognition goes a long way. We are inviting our parents and guardians to participate in our nomination process for Teacher of the Year (TOTY) and school Professional of the Year (POTY). You have a valuable perspective on the education that your children receive, and we’d like to hear from you!
You will see links below that you may use to access two Microsoft forms—one for nominating a Teacher of the Year and one for nominating a school Professional of the Year. These forms will be open from now until December 6 at 11:45 p.m. The forms only have a couple of questions and center mainly on why you are nominating these folks for one or the other of the awards. Please nominate only one person per form. Once all nominations are collected, from parents/guardians and staff, the staff will vote for three finalists in each category and those six people will go on to participate in an observation and an interview (teachers) or an interview (school professionals). The final winner from each of the two categories will be announced at a staff celebration in January or February, and will serve for the 2025-2026 school year.
I have a great committee established that will be instrumental in choosing the final winners, including our current Teacher of the Year, Jordan DeLee, two parents, and two Fulton County schools staff members. Please reach out to me, Dr. McAtee, at mcatee@fultonschools.org, if you have questions about the process.

Beanstack! Help us reach our school wide reading goal of 50,000 minutes!
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. This year, we have a schoolwide reading goal of 50,000 minutes! We can’t reach our goal without the help of your child! If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
