BECS Family Update
Friday Flyer - October 18th
As the temperatures drop, we want to make sure everyone is prepared for some chilly outdoor fun! Since we head outside as much as possible, even when it’s cold, please ensure your child comes to school with a warm coat, hat, and gloves on colder days. Outdoor play is an important part of our day, and we want all students to be comfortable and ready to enjoy it. Let’s keep everyone warm and ready for action—thanks for your support!

Central Ohio Music Therapy
We are excited to share that Central Ohio Music Therapy made their first visit of the year to our school this week, and it was an incredible experience for our students! Throughout the session, the children had the opportunity to listen to engaging songs, interact with the music, and express themselves through movement.
Central Ohio Music Therapy provides a developmentally appropriate social experience that not only encourages active participation but also helps build our students' confidence in a fun and supportive environment. These sessions promote essential social and emotional skills, all while keeping the children engaged in an exciting and interactive way.
The joy on the students' faces was priceless, and they thoroughly enjoyed every moment. We are so grateful to have this program back, and we look forward to welcoming Central Ohio Music Therapy for their next monthly visit!
Staff Spotlight - Mary Keyes
We’re excited to highlight one of our amazing teachers, Mary Keyes, who has been a part of the Burbank family for the past 10 years! Mary teaches in Room 211, where she brings her energy and enthusiasm to her students each day.
Before joining us, Mary worked in private childcare for 11 years and spent 9 years as an elementary teacher with Columbus City Schools. Outside of work, she stays busy with her own family, including her two children and her husband, who teaches at Hastings Middle School. She’s also an animal lover, with three cats and a dog at home!
Mary loves working at Burbank because every day brings a new and exciting adventure. She enjoys how being here keeps her feeling young and lets her tap into her playful side. If you see Mary in the hallways, be sure to say hello!
Support Our PTO Bake Sale Fundraiser!
We are excited to announce that our Burbank staff and PTO will be partnering for a bake sale on Tuesday, November 5th to raise funds for more exciting experiences for our students! Since Burbank is a registered polling site, we will host the bake sale in our main lobby, giving voters the opportunity to choose from a variety of baked goods in exchange for a donation.
We are reaching out for volunteers to help provide baked goods for this event. If you’re interested in supporting our school, please drop off any baked items on or before November 5th. Your contributions will help make this fundraiser a success!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact our main office. Thank you for supporting Burbank and our PTO!
Facilities Master Planning - Community Kickoff
Just like the first phase of the master planning process, phase two will be driven by community engagement and feedback — unfolding over 1 ½ years and involving multiple opportunities for residents to get involved by joining a building team, attending a community engagement session, taking an online survey and more.
“Our goal is to create a transparent process where all voices are heard,” Dr. Hunt said. “We will work together to revisit the work that was done 10 years ago, explore all possible options and together determine the best path forward for these schools.”
Upper Arlington Schools will kick off phase two this fall with the first round of community engagement sessions — on October 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Jones Middle School, 2100 Arlington Avenue, and October 30 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Graf Center, 2020 Builders Place.
“With the physical needs of these buildings, there is no zero-cost option or solution for our community,” Dr. Hunt said. “Your voice truly matters in this process. Your feedback will be vital in identifying a fiscally responsible and forward-thinking plan that meets the needs of both our students and our community.”
