ALDER AVENUE MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Week of April 27, 2025
Hello Alder Families,
Spring is in full swing, the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. We are now in the homestretch and the long days of summer will be here soon. Our students are not missing a beat in the classrooms, in the community and in sports.
Students in Ms. Fager’s class have been working on growing butterflies from caterpillars. This is an introduction to their graphic novel, “The Metamorphosis.” They have been following the whole process, observing, analyzing, and taking notes. Today they had their first butterfly hatch!
In Mrs. Lehrer’s class students read poems by children who were victims of the Holocaust and were prisoners in the Terezin ghetto in the Czech Republic. Students did thematic analysis for selected poems and reflected figurative language of each piece in their ripped paper art. Ripped paper was sometimes used to create art in the ghetto because it was often the only art supply available. Students also researched biographical information of each child artist, learning what happened to them during or after the war.
In the community our Wingmen helped out with the district’s Title I Family Engagement Night. They were joined by some amazing Alder teachers with activities, materials and resources for district families.
Our Spring sports are in full effect. Shout out to the Boys Track Team for their first official win over Somers Point.
In the Long Jump Jeremiah Robles took 2nd place The shot and discus was a sweep … in the shot Markos Papspanos took second place and Daniel Haines took third place. In the Discus we took first place by Daniel Haines, second place by Vinny Biscigelia and third place by Owen Renaud. In the 100 Titus Alejandro and Parker Haney took second and third place. In the 1600 Owen Renaud took first place and Chase Widecrantz took third place. Our 4X1 relay team consisting of Anthony Adams, Corey Laramore, Parker Haney and Titus Alejandro swept all 5 points with the win. In the 400 Ryan Matricardi swept in for first place and Ethan Clossey grabbed second place. In the 200 Corey Laramore took second and Benjamin Davis took third place. For the 800 Meter Arie Kouhoupt took second place and William Wiggins took third place and finally in the 4 x 200 our team of four consisting of Yousef Habash, Ethan Clossey, Owen Howard and Anthony Nellom took the final win for the day!
Next week our students will be participating in state testing, please get plenty of rest and have a nutritious breakfast.
Wow, what an amazing week we have had at Alder. Let’s continue the momentum going and see what next year has in store.
Sincerely,
Ms. Cunningham
Alder Avenue Wingmen
Alder Wingmen got a seat at the table with our very own Superintendent Dr. Gruccio. The Wigmen had a special leadership luncheon in EHT’s board room. Over lunch, they gained insights into district leadership, the Board of Education and its processes, and what it takes to make a difference as a leader! Thank you, Dr. Gruccio. #ehtpride 🦅
