1. How is the energy and vibe at Osgood this week?
The energy has been as if it's the first day of school all over again, without the jitters of the unknown.2. Are there changes within the classrooms across all grades?
All of the classrooms now have large area rugs for students to come together as a class for group circle discussions. Most classroom desks have been rearranged from individual (stand-alone) desks into groups of 2 or 4 desks.
3. Is the school back to exactly what it was pre-Covid?
Yes, for the most part. When Covid started, our Kindergarten students were given their own baskets (similar to a laundry basket) for their personal items. It has worked so well that now our 1st and 2nd grade classrooms are adopting the idea. The baskets are placed outside each classroom along the hallway, which gives the classroom more space for learning and fun. Utilizing Zoom is another improvement made during the last two years that we will continue as an option for parent/teacher conferences and meetings with me, etc. Per my email last week, we will also be keeping allergy safe snacks in the classroom instead of having the nurse go room to room to check a variety of incoming snacks. This keeps our school allergy-friendly. Osgood events will be more personalized; there were things we did differently over the last two years that worked better and we will continue to do it that way (ie: Spring and Holiday Concerts, Snapper Sneaker Day, etc.).
4. Will the current classroom layout stay that way for the rest of the year or are there phases to this process?
There are phases that each teacher might be implementing in response to their own classroom needs.
5. What has changed, physically, around the rest of the school (cafeteria, library, gym, etc.)?
The gym is now completely open and being used for only physical education activities. In the Cafeteria we now have group tables, no more desks. Students get to select where they sit within their classroom cohort and are now lining up to go through the kitchen line. The library and art room are back to group tables instead of individual desks.
6. How is recess different now? Is it longer?
For the last couple of years, we had 20 minutes for lunch and 20 minutes for recess because of all of the lunch shifts we had to fit in. We now have 25 minutes for lunch and 25 mins for recess. As time goes on and the kids get the hang of the lunch line, we will be able to do lunch in 20 minutes and then do 30 minutes for recess.
Happenings...
* As many of you know the Osgood Office is always a very busy place, please make sure that you send in all notices about dismissals, or call the office before 2:30pm. We start getting ready for the end of day at 3:00, we do not want any children to be confused by end of the day changes, it causes anxiety for students.
* There are 3 Early Release days this month, March 17, 29, and 30th.
* March 18th there is No School.
